An explosive aural stockade of rhymes touching on issues ranging from her own ashy-knuckled Los Angeles upbringing to the plight of the Jena 6, hip-hop's premier FemCee begins to drop sonic A-bombs on lesser lyricists and restore hope among those struggling to find meaning in the ruins of rap's gallingly vacuous empire of Bling. No one can match her quick wit, lyrical dexterity or down-home Southern charm. She is one of the few hardcore reality-rappers that can write rhymes with AND without profanity. When she blesses the microphone, M. Pressive, drops words so full of game and street wisdom, that she makes a person wonder how a young lady learned so much game. "I look at life like an older person," explains the 18 year-old rapper. "I think five or ten years older because of who I've been with all my life." Born and reared in Hawthorne, CA a place riddled with violence and poverty; She struggled to do right, but increasingly found herself attracted to the lure of lyricism.
The eldest of 5 born to a single mother, Malaysia(meaning "land of the people") realized she had a knack for self-expression as early as elementary school. Gifted in writing poetry, short stories and plays, as Malaysia entered junior high, the awkward teen, who had once harbored dreams of becoming a WNBA player, ditched her plans after discovering a market for written wares among her friends. "I was kinda one of the cool kids, so to speak,"M. Press!ve recalls. "Hip-hop became a way for me to write; it gave me a language to speak to my peers. I started writing rhymes for my friends, and then I eventually began writing rhymes for myself."
But schoolyard rap ciphers would give way to professional ambition when she met childhood friends Jonea(L.T Turner) and Todd B. (Todd Benson) years later in middle school, around the year 2000. However, it would not be until 2005, when she gained citywide recognition alongside Yung Hoody, Famous Boyz and P-Train.
"My album is like.. For me it represents my struggles, and how I am lettin the world know that im ''finished with wain on bullshit'' its what I rap about.,' " Sanders explains. In describing the struggle, you're also talking about where you're trying to get at the end of that struggle, and that's somewhere beautiful. So while the struggle might be hard, what you're fighting for makes it beautiful."
