Hey there my name is Derick A-K-A Mr.Derby. I'm a native of Washington DC. At an early age I developed a great love for music. Inspired by the likes of Ray Charles, James Brown, Prince and believe it or not Mozart, I was blessed with the gift. I began to write, first music then lyrics and poetry. You see I believe music is the voice through which the soul speaks. I play several instruments including keyboard. I play by ear and I think that I have quite an ear for music. I currently have a children's CD out now "Mr. Derby Nursery Jams Vol. 1. You can check out my website at www.mrderbyjams.com. Listen to the CD, Holla' at Ya' boy. Now I know you are wondering "children's CD"? Well my family's daycare center closed in 2004 after 40 years in child care. I attained my degree in 1993 in the field of early childhood education. As a writer I began fusing conventional children's songs with my original musical stylings including: go-go, reggae, caribbean, jazz and house music. I am currently working on my next three children CD's. I've created a musical program that included both children and adults. It's call a Mr. Derby Jam Session. "Enjoyable for Adults but created for Children".
Thanksgiving is the appointed time for focusing on the good in our lives. In each of our days, we can find small blessings, but too often we overlook them, choosing instead to spend our time paying attention to problems. We give our energy to those who cause us trouble instead of those who bring peace. Starting now, let’s be on the lookout for the bits of pleasure in each hour, and appreciate the people who bring love and light to everyone who is blessed to know them. You are one of those people. On Thanksgiving,
Today story is "Confession And Thanksgiving". During a Sunday worship service, our congregation in unison:"Gracious God,like many believers before us,we complain when things do not go our way.We want abundance of everything rather than what is sufficient to sustain us.We would rather be elsewhere than where we are at the moment. We would rather have the gifts you give to others than what You provide for us.We would rather have You serve us than serve You.Forgive our lack of gratitude for what You give".Abundance is no guarantee of gratefulness or thanksgiving.Posperity may even turn our hearts away from the Lord. When a group of Jewish exiles returned from Babylon with Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, they gathered to confess their sins and those of their fathers. They prayed:"Neither our kings nor our princes, our priests nor our fathers, have kept Your law....For they have not served You in their kingdom,or in the many good things that You gave them,or in the many good things that You gave them,or in the large and rich land which You set before them, nor did they turn from their wicked works"(Neh9vs34-35).Confession is a powerful prelude to a prayer of thanksgiving.Obedience is the Amen.Confession opens the door to thanksgiving.
