   About Charlie King
I'm from Battle Creek,MI. I played the Tuba in high school and spent my summers doing summer stock at the Barn Theatre in Augusta. I moved to Chicago where I worked at the Old Town School of Folk Music and joined the infamous Old no.8, a legendarily drunken alt/cunt outfit of mythic proportions. ( Remember the Morseland! ) Several albums and sexually-transmitted diseases later, I moved to L.A. to pursue my dream of becoming morally bankrupt & spitting out vitroil in a filthy folk duo called The King and the Barber. Ah, those were the ham salad days. And as of 2007, I'm tearing up the country with my new favorite degenerates...the Asylum Street Spankers! What can I say, I love Tuvan-Throat singing to hillbilly music. Who doesn't, right?

My dearest Charlie, your Ragtime Man video is almost as revoltingly sexy as you. Almost. I love it! We've still got your jams spinning down here (or up here? Are you back in Austin?). Can't wait for the next compilation. Smell ya later.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

Promotional Video(My Girl From The South Sea Isles)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Nice crackly crunch on those push-ups! And uncle dave tuned Sears guitar. If I went to the crossroads at midnight in alabama, on a cold sunny afternoon in china and Uncle Dave came out, I would be pretty sure he was Pan or some pan-african whiteness'd uncle. I don't drink anyway, really. But how many planks? Tell yer wife I said hi, and that I'm envious.

It wouldn't let me comment here before, saying I was not your friend which, in a digital sense, is simply not the case. Let's see if it works now...

OK, it looks like it's going to work. Forgettin' what I was gonna say, but I really like the general overtones... he he. I play with them myself, but only in the realm of "normal" singing. I'll just draw out a note for awhile 'till it starts to whistle on it's own, for my own pleasure, all alone. It feels really neat. Anyway, do you listen to much japanese music? There seems to be a type of singing there that's similar to some of the Tuvan stuff, but without emphsis on overtones. Of course I could be a little off base, but I've been really into old japanese 78s recently, partially 'cause they're not too hard to find. The drawback is that I can't read the labels. Hum. Thanks for dropping by and listening to my stuff, as well as approving my friend request. Best,

~H~
