New age hip hop. Mr. Frizo has been working at his craft since 1999. In his earlier years, you could describe his music carreer as more of a hobby to pass time. At a young age, he started producing instrumentals on a simple drum machine, and recording lyrics with friends from high school.
Having a true love for hip hop music has definatly boosted Frizo's ability to create quality songs. He started becoming really attached to hip hop at the age of 9. Listening to just about any artist that has a cd on a store shelf, not realizing at the moment that he wasn't just listening, he was studying. Frizo's biggest influences are Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Outkast, but ultimatley he is influenced by all artists.
Frizo's first album "I Rep Vol. 1" was released in 2004. This was a collaboration album featuring other artists he was working with at the time. The album itsself was very mediocre. It was built off grimey beats and juvenile lyrics. But "I Rep Vol. 1" was not created to top charts, or win grammys. Instead,it was created to let the public know that Frizo was here.
Being under the age of 21 is a very crucial set back, in terms of "getting your music heard", where Frizo is from. Not to mention, hip hop, isn't really "accepted" in Wisconsin to begin with. When "I Rep Vol. 1" was released Frizo was only 19. Most artists sell their cds at gigs, partys, etc. So he had to go about getting his music heard, in other ways. He ended up selling most of his albums in gas station parking lots. He would bring his headphones and tell people they could listen before they bought. It was working. Albums were selling. People who had no idea who Frizo was, were buying his album because they enjoyed what they heard.
During the end of the "I Rep Vol. 1" campaigne, it was time for a fresh start. Frizo knew that the people in his city were buying his album out of excitement. Excited that there was a young hip hop artist in town actually trying to make something happen. He knew the music itself still wasn't good enough to actually become a "hit". So it was back to the studio. Frizo is his own producer, so he figured he had to get his hands on some newer, more up to date equipment.
He started to sit in the studio religiously. Everyday, writing and producing music. This distanced him from alot of the artists he had worked with in the past. They still made regular studio visits like always, but Frizo wasn't "visiting" the studio. He was living in it. He was there when the artists came to the studio, and he stayed when they left. Because of this, Frizo had turned into a solo act.
2006. Frizo releases his first solo album. "Property Of". A big improvement from "I Rep Vol. 1". The album was made up of 19 songs with features from 4 other artists including Jessica Ryan. Still being under the age of 21 was frustrating but it didn't matter. "Property Of" was selling, and unlike the last album, it was earning Frizo respect. This album sold very rapidly in his city of Racine. Local dj's were playing it at their gigs. Park High School's varsity cheerleading team even used the albums single "Move Around" with the routine they went on to win the state championship with.
But regardless of how much buzz was building in Frizo's area, he knew that the music still didn't sonicly sound like chart worthy music. He needed more practice. Not necessarily with writing or producing. But with the finished product as a whole. The songs needed to sound better.
Since then, Frizo has dramatically improved making his songs sound amazing. He's been featured in The Racine Journal Times newspaper. He's a highly demanded producer working with established artists in Wisconsin and Illinois. He commands his audience when on the stage, and defines crowd control. He has performed on many stages including the I Rock Club in Detroit, and The Rave in Milwaukee. He was part of a series called "Make It Or Break It", that's scheduled to be aired on BET in October.
Frizo's newest album "King Of The Track" is a solo mixtape to promote the album "Behind The Music" to be released in early 2009. Songs like, "Gimmie Your Love" and "Beatin Somethin Up" are getting major attention in his area.
