With the main focus in electronic music on producers and their productions it is easy to forget that some people out there have spent as much time honing their DJ skills as others have on their productions skills. Mr Henry Von is one of these DJs. He is someone who has a real passion for playing out in the clubs or in fact anywhere the party takes him. He has that (much taken for granted) ability to read a crowd and build a set. He is a humble scholar of many kinds of music, constantly and endlessly searching for original ideas and fresh new sounds. He is dedicated to being different and to getting as far away from normal, ordinary and standard as is possible. Not forgetting that the party he wants to be at is a celebration and is for everybody, underground or not.
It was Fergie who gave Henry Von his first break, by putting him on at a weekend of parties to promote his new web site. He was suitably impressed and gave him further breaks in quick succession; a warm up for Sister Bliss at “Colours” (The Arches) in Scotland and a warm up for Ferg himself at “Godskitchen” in Birmingham. A massive first few gigs for a then unknown DJ, that were opportunities to pretty much either sink or swim. Following these mad few months Von was then asked to be one of the launch artists on Fergie’s Excentric agency platform, and to be it’s first resident.
The Excentric residency began at The Key, London, and took in clubs in Birmingham (Chic & The Custard Factory), Perth in Scotland and the jewel in the crown, a weekly residency in Ibiza during the Summer of 2007. Excentric brought their summer to a close by hosting the coco loco room of Mauro Picotto’s “Meganite” at the worlds biggest club Privilege and by the end of the summer word was well and truly out about the Excentric resident.
Since then gigs have followed as far a field as Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Australia. In such a short space of time Von has played at one of the UK’s biggest techno nights, at Nottingham’s “Firefly,” at Northern Ireland’s first ever techno festival “Tetris Safari,” at the "Ketoloco" parties in Ibiza, he has had 2 consecutive Boxing Day gigs north of the border for “Colours,” plus another return to The Arches for the “Loch Lommond Official After Party.” He has headlined overseas trips to Cork, Belfast, Limavady and Mayo and has had many more unforgettable nights in Derby, Bournemouth, Leicester, Lincoln, Stoke On Trent and Leeds. Not to mention his 2008 summer residency at “Dex In The City Presents Monu Digital” in London. He's been billed alongside some of the biggest names in electronic music, from Slam to Adam Beyer, Troy Pierce to Claude Vonstroke, Phil Kieran, Gregor Tresher, Anderson Noise, Tom Pooks and The Japanese Popstars. On the airwaves Von has been interviewed and had guest mixes aired in Ibiza, Derby, Brighton, Birmingham and Germany.
As 2008 draws to a close, Mr Henry Von will make his long awaited debut release, fittingly for Fergie as a remix of his "Black Eye-P" track that will be released on Excentric Muzik as part of a massive remix package. This will be followed by two original projects in the shape of "Propaganda" and "Graceland" and this is just the beginning for the Excentic boy wonder...
