  • Bio

Mr McFall's Chamber came into being in the mid nineties. It is an ensemble based in Scotland. We play classical, rock, jazz collaborations, cartoon music, tango etc etc etc. Line-up is generally string quaret, bass, piano and drums/percussion. We usually play amplified. We've also worked with a number of singers - including Taylor Wilson, Valentina Montoya-Martinez and Michael Marra. The band has recorded a number of CDs, including a recent release (2010) of music by Martyn Bennett and Fraser Fifield, entitled 'Birds and Beasts', and a recording of music by Gavin Bryars (2009) - both on Delphian Records. The group have also released a CD of tango and South-American music, 'Revolucionario', with guest singer Valentina Montoya Martinez, and a number of eclectic compilations. See www.mcfalls.co.uk/Recordings/ for a full list.
  • Members

Robert McFall (violin), Brian Schiele (viola), Su-a Lee(cello/musical saw), Rick Standley (bass) Plus guest instrumentalists including Graeme McNaught, Phil Alexander, James Mackintosh, Claire Sterling, Lise Aferiat, Tom Bancroft, Chris George, and others.
  • Influences

Astor Piazzolla, Raymond Scott, Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa, Ennio Morricone, Giya Kancheli, Olli Mustonen, James Clapperton, John Adams, James MacMillan, Edward McGuire, John Dowland, Carlo Gesualdo - these are all composers whose music we play.
  • Sounds Like

very difficult to describe - because we do so many different things - but I would like to think of ourselves in the same category as "new classical" bands like the Absolut Ensemble. The band characteristically sounds really rich because of using richly amplified strings.
