About me:
Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore? 2006 Nominee Best Feature Documentary - International Documentary Association, Shortlisted for the 2006 Academy Award, Best Documentary, Winner Audience Award 2006 Silverdocs AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival, Winner Golden Ox (Best Documentary Feature) - OXDOX International Film Festival, Winner Special Jury Award (Feature Documentary) - International Human Rights Film Festival in Paris. Broadcast on PBS as part of the Independent Lens Series Deeply absorbing and moving with the caffeinated speed of Smith's own feisty campaign, "Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?" is at once a celebration of small-d democracy and an elegy to it, a portrait that will surely inspire and infuriate viewers. And once they take this particular peek at how the sausage is made, with luck they'll want to start working on a new recipe. Washington Post This award winning Film follows the U.S. Congressional race of Jeff Smith, a 29 year old part time political science teacher as he takes on Russ Carnahan, son of Missouri's most powerful political dynasty. The odds against Jeff are long. He has no money, no name recognition and few political connections His own communication manager says that he looks "like he's 12 and sounds like he's castrated". Even his family dismisses him. His staff is a hodge podge of political nobodies - mostly former students. But thanks to Jeff's savvy and charisma he is able to mobilize an army of nearly 500 volunteers generating a youth-oriented grassroots insurgency that shocks the political establishment.
Who I'd like to meet:
People who want to help take our country back from the special interests and Washington elites who have hijacked our government.

ECLECTIC FILMS

Jul 22 2007 10:46 PM

Hello my name is Jeremy, my passion is film my dream is to make great film. I believe that I have ACADEMY AWARD winning film ideas but Hollywood is not that easy it is who you know. when I think of a film idea I like to put certain characters in them meaning certain actors and mold the film around them. I was told that every one has great film ideas I don't believe that, your film ideas are only as good as your creativity and imagination. I believe that Hollywood has thrown creativity and imagination out of the window. I want to bring that back, great films are to far in between. I have seen more remakes in the last two years than ever, in the history of film. What does that tell you, it tells me that Hollywood is reaching. If they would just make it easier for people to pitch thier film ideas we probably would see better films. For example, monsters ball did not have to sit on the shelf for seven years before it got made, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have proven that it is not rocket science to right a descent script,Good Will Hunting. I thought that both of these films were worthy of an oscar nomination, it seems like everyone in Hollywood is out for themselves, I would rather work with a team of people that are creative and passionate about film verse one person, i believe that you would get a better film. It's not to say that one person can not make a great film.If you are passionate about film too, and your dream is to make great film, than this message is for you, I am looking for poeple who are interested in working together to create great film, rather you are a producer, director, or writer this message is for you. Serious Inquiries only. Jeremy ECLECTIC FILMS

GUD Magazine

May 23 2007 11:38 PM

Just wanted to let you (and your comment-reading friends) know that GUD Issue 1 is now available for purchase!

Issue 1 comes to life with Darby Larson's "Electroencephalography" where an experiment in robot-building goes terribly awry. And if you've ever woken up with an unexpected physical deformity—say, an arrow in your heart—you'll truly enjoy the next story. There's also a smattering of flash fiction and psychedelia; a straight-out story where things aren't what they seem, poetry that takes you from the perverse to the sublime, some magic realism, science fiction, and a few letters to another species thrown in for good measure. We haven't forgotten those of you with a literary bent. In addition, the artwork in this issue is particularly strong, with oil paintings, watercolors, photography, and photo illustrations complementing the words with which they are paired.

Thanks for being a friend!
