Who is 'Mrs Wainwright'?
Trish Anderson-- (Git)
'Diesel' Pete McKenna--(Monogamous Dog)
Influences
Lucinda Williams, The Alabama 3, Frank Black, Tommy Womack, The Waifs, Tex, Don and Charlie, Andy Baylor......really...every good musician we've ever listened to.
Like a brother sister act, harmonies and guitars locked, Trish Anderson and Pete McKenna provoke with pithy lyrics and cutting humour. Trish was vocalist/lead guitarist with cult three-part harmony trio, GIT. With this their debut album, CLICKITY CLACK (Croxton), Trish emerges as a talented and original singer/songwriter in her own right. Pete's guitar keeps them country. Live they’re joined by Dave Major (drums), a natural clown and Dave Sainsbury (elec Bass) a natural straight man.
During their 7 year reign the Gitgals released several successful albums most notably, FLOWERS. GIT toured several times to the US and attracted US, British and European music press. This coupled with plenty of radio airplay here at home ensured Trish and the others always had a high profile, appearing at most of the major ‘roots’ music festivals in Australia. With Mrs Wainwright, Trish has continued the tradition by becoming a regular at the Tamworth Country Music festival and revisiting Adelaide and Sydney. Currently, Trish has credits on the soundtrack to the TV show, LAST MAN STANDING.
Pete McKenna learned his craft from Les Herd after finding music at Dennington Primary, (an experience he shares with Shane and Marcia Howard). He played for years as either Bass player or guitarist with “Town and Country Band”, and “Tamara” all about the western district. His solid grounding in the country genre came with him when he hit Melb in the early ‘90’s influencing his prog/punk outfits “Soup Dogs” and “Charger”. Trish and Pete first played together in folk/jazz group “Monogamous Dog” along with Dave Major. Pete has moved back to the country in more ways than one and commutes to bring his brand of country style to Mrs Wainwright rejoining Trish to create a blend which is at once original but familiar.
CLICKITY CLACK (release 3rd Sept on CROXTON RECORDS) was produced by Mick Thomas and Craig Pilkington (Sure things, Killjoys), also engineered by Craig Pilkington at AUDREY STUDIOS, Coburg, Victoria, (with financial assistance from Arts Victoria).Trish and Pete were joined in the studio by Mick Thomas (weddings parties anything. the sure things) playing Bass and Dave Folley (killjoys, John Schumann, Cyndi Boste, Chris Wilson) on drums. We were also graced by Mia Dyson's brilliance, on 1 more reason (vocals, electric guitar) and Not A Day (baritone electric guitar), blessed with Mick Thomas' artful Mandola on Big Black Sea, burning elec guitar on 9 Demons and various essential clicks, bangs and whistles, Craig Pilkington blew us away with trumpet on Love As Many People As You Can, played double bass on Big black Sea and did incredible things with recorded sound samples, Chris Altmann (Vandas) honored us with pedal steel on Farina and Clickity Clack and Hawaiian slide on I Will Breathe Again, and Caroline Healy (aka Miss Caroline) astounded us all, tapping the solo on I will Breathe Again, amazing!
Live Mrs Wainwright is joined by Dave Major (drums) who has delved into many percussion styles eclectic and tasty. Dave M has performed with renowned artists from country blues to metal, playing alongside artists such as Johnny Green, Was Foster and David Broadly. He loves to drum and finds comfort on stage and that is excactly where he belongs.
AND Dave Sainsbury (Elec Bass) who was the session guitarist of choice for the entire western district, recording extensively with Dennis O’Keefe in the ‘90s. Dave S and Pete have travelled the western district music scene together since their youth.
On tour Mrs Wainwright is joined by Rob Eyers (drums) Originally from London and now Adelaide based, Rob’s well known for his work in ‘juke-joint’ blues duo ‘Sweet Baby James’ and jazzing it up with ‘Cat’s Hat’. Rob recorded with the Audreys touring with them to launch their debut album.
