Smith WHO: Mr. Weird’s Grindhouse Vol. 3, presented by the soon-to-be launched DallasMovieGuide.com, Altair IV Productions and Starz Home Entertainment WHAT: More than just a big screen viewing of Halloween, Gordon K. Smith has compiled a special collection of trailers and commercials as well as trailers from other Stuart Gordon classics. Smith will discuss the film and share pieces of his collection that can’t be found anywhere else. Trailers will include The Brain That Wouldn't Die, The Thing With Two Heads, The Four Skulls Of Jonathan Drake and more. WHEN: Thursday, September 6th, 2007 at 7:30 PM, doors at 7 PM. This film is Rated R. Seating is limited. There will also be giveaways including DVDs, CDs, t-shirts, screening passes, concert tickets and more. WHY: Because there’s nothing else like this in the D/FW area for film buffs and adventurous moviegoers. Every showing will be a special presentation of a cult classic film that will include a unique compilation of rare old trailers, clips and commercials from that particular era as well as a discussion about the cinematic significance of that particular film. Also, Studio Movie Grill is a great place to eat, drink and enjoy a classic show with an appreciative audience. (more) OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST: Gordon K. Smith: Gordon K. Smith ( a.k.a. "Mr. Weird", the producer/host of DCTV's "Weird Theatre"), is an award-winning Dallas-based writer, filmmaker, film historian and actor. Born in Houston and raised in Lubbock, he is a graduate of Texas Tech University and was one of the very first employees of Blockbuster Video (for whom he wrote thousands of synopses that appeared on VHS jacket covers). Smith has appeared in bit parts in over 35 movies and TV episodes (including The Alamo and "Walker Texas Ranger"). In 1989 his research work led to the revival of the almost-lost cult classic Carnival of Souls. Recently, he was the researcher for the AMC Channel series "Movies 101", produced special video tributes for the AFI-Dallas Film Festival, and co-hosted, with WFAA's Gary Cogill, "It Came From Dallas", an annual salute to pioneer Dallas filmmakers. Dallas Movie Guide: Dallas Movie Guide is a spin-off of Dallas Music Guide (www.DallasMusicGuide.com), a successful online music site that was also launched in nine other markets. Founder Paul Salfen plans to do the same with the Movie Guides later this year. He is a member of the D/FW Film Critics Association and often hosts film panels at several area conventions and screenings, including his own - Fear Fest, an annual genre film convention. Starz: Starz Media is a programming production and distribution company operating worldwide. It includes the Film Roman, Anchor Bay Entertainment, and Manga Entertainment brands. Its units create animated and live-action programming – including theatrical films -- and programming created under contract for other media companies. It distributes that programming, and programming acquired from outside producers, through home video retailers, theaters, broadcasters, ad supported and premium television channels, and Internet and wireless video distributors in the US and internationally. Starz Media is an operating unit of Starz, LLC, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation that is attributed to Liberty Capital Group, www.starz.com.
