Her sound is soulful and lyrical but still young and hot enough to knock in your stereo. "If Lauryn Hill and Beyonce had a love child that was best friends with Mary J. Blige, that would be me!!"

About Catch Crystal Joy on tour NOW w/ Legally Blonde
Imagine being born fourth generation into a musical family and refusing to sing...Fast forward a few years and meet R&B sensation, Crystal Joy. They're the same person."I've always loved to sing; sang all the time. I just didn't tell anybody. I don't really know why because I wasn't a shy kid persay; I just kept it to myself. Strangley enough my parents entered me into a talent show when I was about three. It was time for me to sing my song and I stood there and just smiled in my pretty little dress. But as soon as we got in the car, I sang my tail off the whole way home." No one outside of her immediate family knew of her gift until she was twelve years old."It was pretty scary, but I remember listening to a recording of the show and I heard somebody go 'whoo' after like the first line. So then I was like 'Ok, I think I might have something here.'" With powerhouse vocals and lyrics that hits are made of, Ms. Joy is a force to be reckoned with.
After attending Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts, of which her father is alumni, she briefly attended Five Towns College studying Music Business. Having been raised by performers, Ms. Joy is no stranger to the stage. "My great-grandmother Stella was a piano teacher, so it started with her." Both her parents and grandfather have worked on Broadway plays, musicals, and movies with a Tony Award nomination and win as well as a Grammy nomination under their belts. "I guess there's no escaping your destiny. Performance has always been in my blood. I come from musical people, so it was only natural." They have even recorded and performed with artists such as jazz greats Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway, Roberta Flack, Regina Belle, Will Downing as well as many others.
Credits to Crystal's budding career include co-writing the first place 10,000 scholarship winning song for the Bertesmann World Of Expression Scholarship Fund with "VIBES" in 2002 and again writing and winning soley in 2004 for "With Or Without You." She has also begun exploring theatre. In 2005, she made her theatrical debut as Dorothy in The Wiz. Ms. Joy is an accomplished songwriter and in addition to writing her own material for her solo project, she has written with her band The SENATE. "My band is so awesomely talented, it's crazy. We all come from different musical genres and yet we unite all of our forces to make our sound. There's no one out there doing what we do. I'm so glad to be in the company of such talented and gifted people."Crystal has also co-written compositions for the world premiere of Imagine Tap, a tap dance musical that opened at the Harris Theatre in Chicago summer 2006.
In addition to writing and recording, she was most recently seen in a production of DREAMGIRLS at the Theatre Under The Stars in Houston, Tx where she was Lorrell Robinson, the same role her mother played on Broadway over 20 years ago. "My mom took over Lorrell after Loretta (Divine) left. We had the same costumes and everything!! One of my gowns had my mother's name in it right above mine. It was so surreal."
With an immense amount of talent, poise and beauty, Crystal Joy is a name to get used to. "I want to do it all. I wanna sing, dance, write and act. More importantly, I know I can do it."
