Although jazz, funk, and hip-hop color Modernday Soothsayers' music, the overall sound is uniquely their own and not bound to one particular genre. The band describes what they do as groove based melodic expression. According to the band’s founding member and lead vocalist, Marcellus Nealy, “It’s music you can dance to, music you can chill to, and music you can deeply feel.”
Each of the members has a long career. Collectively they have worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Reel People, Cleveland Watkiss, Tei Towa, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Bird, Misia, M-Flo, Dreams Come True, Roy Davis Jr., Ai, Crystal Kay, Joan Osborn, Steely Dan, and Areatha Franklin.
