Brenda's Interests
|
| General | Music, pubs, friends. Oh, and hanging out in pubs with my friends, catching great live music! | | Music | Of course I have a fondness for all things 80's! And 70's era disco, too. I love love love Warren Zevon, Earth Wind & Fire, Black 47, The Pogues, Dennis Brennan, Johnny Horton, Blondie, Hank Williams, Preacher Jack, Buddy Holly, anything produced by Phil Spector, Paul Brady... a new fave is Lazlo Bane - great stuff and a sense of humor to match! | | Movies | Stuff that makes me laugh... Monty Python, Airplane, Slapshot, Major League, Blazing Saddles, the Naked Gun movies, Spinal Tap, Zoolander, you get the idea. I can be incredibly depressed, yet still chuckle when I watch the walk-off scene from Zoolander. All time favorite movie line: "They said you was hung!" (You complete the quote, LOL!) Oh yeah, lately I've been in retro-mode (you don't say!) and watching classic 80's flicks like First Blood, RoboCop, etc. Hmmm, now I want to see The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai.... | | Television | Father Ted (BBC), documentaries on just about anything (yeah, I actually do watch "Modern Marvels" on the History Channel all the time), Star Trek & Next Gen, The Simpsons, Family Guy, college and pro football, college hoops (but not pro) and the occasional sitcom if it's well written and not dumbed down... which I guess means I like Scrubs, and hate everything else on these days. Oh, for another "Frasier"....
Speaking of TV, here's a picture of me as an Orion Slave girl. I really wanted to be one of those back in the day!
 | | Books | When I want something deep and meaningful, I like works by Kahlil Gibran and Soren Kierkegaard. When I just want to relax, I enjoy Dave Barry, Carl Hiaasen or Janet Evanovich. I've been reading a lot of stuff by the Dalai Lama these days too. Very cool. I'm also in spy-girl mode, reading lots of John LeCarre. Truly, I will read anything and everything; reading is my passion! | | Heroes | My heroes are people who just go out there every day and bust their asses to make the world a better place. Firefighters, nurses, charity volunteers, people like that. I think most of us have the potential to be heroic in a fight-or-flight situation, but to make a difference every day? To drag your ass out of bed at 3 am and take care of a sick child, or help a family in need? THAT is something to admire. |
