G. Wrinkle was a 1976 Bicentennial baby, appropriately delivered in the town of Independence. He bounced around minor league Southern towns, absorbing vivid experiences that would later mold his songwriting style. Notebook pages engorged with broken hearts, broken dreams, the disillusioned, determined, and the in-between. In 2003, Wrinkle met John Cody, a multi-talented producer, musician and owner of Quicksilver Studios in Oklahoma City. With Cody’s talismanic inspiration, those old notebook pages sprung to life and together they evolved into a creative force named mugfug.
One windy Oklahoma evening, Wrinkle heard glorious music coming from a neighborhood garage. He walked inside and discovered Jim Spalding, a jet engine on the skins with vocal harmonies like the angel Gabriel. To his left was Ivan Pierce, a fiery lead guitarist who used his life savings to buy his soul back from the Devil. To Jim's right was Marlon Carbone, a Zen master of the 7-string bass guitar. Sixty minutes and six beers later, the mugfug family was finally complete.
mugfug’s debut album “Burn Ban” is a snapshot of life in the 21st Century South; where everyone has something to sell and it’s all shit. “Burn Ban” is not for the weak of spirit. Ten tracks of hard-hitting Americana roots-rock that best-selling author Howard Zinn describes as “admirably imaginative, politically provocative.”
