   About Multicast
Multicast Logo

Multicast is a rural Colorado based electronic band currently comprised of Dave Alexander and Jeff Holland (with Nathan Jantz currently in hiding). The three have been working for twelve years in the arena of melodic interlocked electronics and acoustics, using modern and analog gear. Their indie-IDM sound can be described as cinematic in scope, featuring a unique blend of sci-fi atmospherics, electro-dub and krautish references. Multicast's sound is warm and emotional, unlike the lot of cold and sterile lap-top electronica, and incorporates Arabic and Asian scales in the mix. The musicians perform 'live' without a laptop computer, and years of playing together have resulted in a near telepathic interplay of melodies, counter-melodic responses and propellant rhythmic structures. The band's sense of humor can be heard through the dose of surf and spaghetti western themes they sometimes invoke.

Multicast Live at Trilogy

Multicast shows include stunning visuals from Michael Lauter of Kinotonik.com/ClandestCINE.com. Here is an example 16mm film-loop triptych used for a past show in high resolution. These visuals are crisp and provide an enchanting element to the cinematic aural experience of Multicast.

For Multicast's 2008 showcases, the theme is Technology juxtaposed with nature. The motion visuals to be shown with the Obliq 2008 performance will explore the human-nature relationship. Within this theme, technology, in particular will be the dominant motif. Simple tools to complex engineering as well as architecture exist within the natural landscapes of Earth. Humans are both assisted by and victims of natural phenomenon – from magnetic fields of the Earth's poles to extreme tornadoes. Technology is used to both harness and study forces of nature.

Hill City 2005

Technically the visuals will be achieved with Hi-Definition digital video. Scene of natural phenomenon will be pre-edited for synchronous playback with the live music of Obliq 2008. The video elements of technology shall include both pre-edited as well as live video feeds, which will be integrated live during the performance.

Musically, Multicast will preform an array of live and improvised melodies with disjunct beats. The range will be cinematic to dance with everything in between. Multicast will use _NO_ laptops and perform with guitars, effects, modular synthesizers, keyboards and drum machines with interactive control sequencers.

For example, Multicast will be using GenoQs Octopus as a controller and usage of our gear will be incorporated into the visual projections. We have discovered this type of performance and visual interlocking provides crowd interaction which is desperately needed in today's Live Electronics shows.

Required equipment includes:

  • Lots of Bass
  • Blu-Ray disc player (for pre-edited content)
  • Two (2) 1080p native resolution (1920x1080) Hi-Def projectors, each with at least 1200 ANSI lumens and 10000:1 contrast ratio and either HDMI or HD-SDI connections.
  • Hi-Def video switcher/mixer with HDMI inputs and outputs (Two Blackmagic Designs Intensity Pro HDMI card in a Mac Computer running Intensity On-Air software.)
  • Large projection Screen behind band

More information on Multicast can be found at Obliq Recordings website with discography and live and DJ radio show performances. More information on Michael Lauter can be found at ClandestCINE and Kinotonik websites.
