I am running for president-elect of SPJ.
Music
This is a video I produced for Kansas.com,, when Red Jumpsuit Apparatus came to Wichita. I have always liked working as a music journalist. I've interviewed the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow and Trisha Yearwood. I have an eclectic taste and listen to about everything. My stepson gave me the Shins for my birthday.
Movies
"Casablanca," "Young Frankenstein" and "Little Miss Sunshine" are movies I could watch all day. My favorite newspaper movie is "His Girl Friday." "Hoop Dreams" is my favorite documentary. My wife and I love to sit in the dark and watch "Love Actually." "An Inconvenient Truth" is probably one of the more important films, one everyone needs to see.
Television
Good sitcoms. The History and Discovery Channels. MSNBC and CNN; the Sundance Channel and the Independent Film Channel.
Books
Anything by Tom Wolfe or Bob Woodward.
Heroes
Survivors of the crimes stories I cover, who show more courage in one day than most others do in their lifetimes.
About me:
During my 30 years as a journalist, I have had lunch with Johnny Cash and looked into the eyes of the BTK killer.
I have come to know human, wit, compassion and the capacity for evil.
The stories I write are true. The names are not changed.
I currently work for the Wichita Eagle, as a reporter for the Interactive News department. I look forward to going into work every day. Currently, I'm trying to record my learning experiences in multimedia journalism on MY BLOG.
I originally signed up so I could keep an eye on my teenager, who you can see in the "comments" section uses it to ridicule me.
