Mundane Circus's Interests
|
| Television | I rarely watch television these days, but when I do, I usually watch:
* Azumanga Daioh (not on American TV, but I've seen the DVDs; see also below)
* The Sopranos (never seen the original run, but became addicted to it after we got digital cable and HBO, especially "On Demand"; I now own some of the DVD sets)
* Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares (just to hear Chef Ramsay cuss (yes, it's bleeped out, but so what))
* Anything from Klasky-Csupo, especially "Real Monsters", "Santo Bugito", and of course, "Rugrats" (mainly the pre-Dil episodes)
| | Books | I am a bookworm (and I'm writing a book myself); I have hundreds of books on my shelves. Here are some of my favorites:
* "With The Light" -- a manga about a family dealing with their autistic son, and how Japanese culture deals with it.
* "Azumanga Daioh" and "Yotsuba&!" -- ADV said they're flipping hilarious, but they're practically quaint slice of life stories about schoolgirls and a six year old, respectively.
* "Fun Home" -- Alison Bechdel's magnum opus about her life in a Pennsylvania town and her control-freak father -- and how he influenced her life.
* "One Piece" -- Popular manga about a man who wants to be king of the pirates. Think "Mod Squad" on water.
* "Oor Wullie" and "The Broons" -- Scotland's favorite Sunday comics, about a boy and his milk pail and several generations of the Broons in one roof, respectively.
* The old "Andy Capp" collections -- especially back in the day when he still smoked and beat his wife.
* "Persepolis" -- a look at a life of an Iranian woman, during a time when Iran was changing, for the worse.
* Anything by Florence Cestac -- her big-nose style got me on the French BD bandwagon, after a trip to Quebec one year. |
