As a member of the up and coming Doin Me Entertainment roster, J-Dub does his best to be different and creative. Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA where the talent is hard to reach the masses of the mainstream music industry, J-Dub is always creating something musically. Whether it's doing his own music or helping others to carve their artistry, he is always in the studio. He grew up in a gang territory neighborhood where he found himself in between gunfire, which could of killed him at the age of 17, getting ready for his last year of High School. Luckily, the two bullets that hit him only managed to pierce his chest and just grazed the inside of his head. Right then, he knew he had to do something cause life is too short to not get out there. He met up with some group of friends around the neighborhood and eventually formed Infamous Clique(still active) and started to send demos locally. Not long after that, he decided to join the military for a better opportunity for his music and help his friends back at home if he got that right contact. While in the military, he met up with five guys, which brought about the name Doin Me Clique--due to the members coming from different parts of the country(some members left). With the change of the band, only two remain together....Murda Rell from Chicago is the other member. Currently they have a few mixtapes out under Doin Me Entertainment, which can be found on Datpiff.com J-Dub has one with fellow Pittsburgh native, Pitts who is also not around anymore but J-Dub is working more towards his solo efforts. "I realize that as a group, I was the one playing backfield. Which was cool, but I'm from a city where there is hidden talent so I gotta come with a nice mixtape." So far he has been getting some nice reviews of his music and a variety of artists to work with.
Doin Me Entertainment joins hands with A&R Select
Los Angeles, CA – Doin Me Entertainment has entered into a partnership with A&R Select, the premier A&R firm based out of Los Angeles, CA. Doin Me Entertainment has a number of new projects on the way and has tapped A&R Select to help get the word out about these exciting new hip-hop releases.
The “Doin Me Clique” includes John “J-Dub” Williams, Lionel “Murda Rell” Conner and Mike “L.A.” Laudano, purveyors of music that is – in the words of the artists themselves – “aggressive,” “cocky” and “bold” but which is also very self-aware, penetrating and intelligent.
Doin Me will soon be releasing a group mixtape, “Still Doin Me,” but J-Dub and Murda Rell also have solo projects cooking. Rell’s forthcoming album is as yet untitled but J-Dub has announced that his new disc will be called “Who I Am.”
A common mind set among Doin Me artists is that the music is a way of taking the hard lessons of life and making something positive. “Music to us is like escaping our problems we face every day,” says one Doin Me member, “just taking our experiences and others and putting them to good use – we take our problems and twist in our opinion in a fun way.”
Initially, the collective started out as “something to do,” but as momentum gathered, people began to tell the folks of Doin Me that they were on to something. So what started out as fun became a focused, driven project – that’s still a lot of fun, even if it’s hard work, too.
“We’d just like to say thanks to everyone who listens and supports our music, as well as thanking God, our dear Lord, for this opportunity presented to us by A&R Select!” More information is available by visiting www.myspace.com/doinmeentertainment, www.myspace.com/murdavilleninfamous, www.myspace.com/murdavillekpc and www.promofm.com/doin_me_clique.
