"It has, moreover, been proven that horror, nastiness, and the frightful are what give pleasure when one fornicates. Beauty is a simple thing; ugliness is the exceptional thing. And firey imaginations, no doubt, always prefer the extraordinary thing to the simple thing."
- Marquis de Sade
Despite the isolation and longing to see the big city, members of the
Murder City Sparrows look back on their time growing up in small town
Canada fondly. This rural nostalgia has never been more apparent then in
the words and music presented in their first full length record entitled
Dead Horse Disco. Written over the course of two years touring back and
forth across Canada, Dead Horse Disco is an unflinching look into the
desires of young men behaving badly. Songs holding evidence of street
racing cars, drugs, criminal activity and the sordid sexual conquest of a
landlord to pay the rent provide reassurance that Rock and Roll is alive
and well in these boys. With expert guidance from producer Gordie
Johnson(Big Sugar, The Trews, Gov't Mule) and recording/mixing engineer
Bill Kennedy(Nine Inch Nails, Motley Crue, Megadeth) the Murder City
Sparrows push their country punk styling to the limit.
