Murder Ranks was born in February of 2008. Months before Murder Ranks was actually formed Ben, Mike and Nate began playing out as Russian Bones, tinkering with some improv, fulfilling commitments that had become complicated and really just wanting to have a good time playing shows. The three of us had been in a band together throughout the 90s, Vivid Imagination, but hadn't played with each other in years. Throughout that time we were all huge fans of the Warlock Pinchers and getting the opportunity to open for them in 1991 was a dream come true. Once the Pinchers broke-up, Ben began working with Scratchie in The Wild Canadians and both Mike and Ben had collaborated with him in The Gerds. Two years ago Scratchie gave Ben a shout wanting to do something new. We really wanted to put something together that was unfamiliar to us, to push the limits of Dub and Punk Rock, build around Scratchie's lyrical arsenal, but most importantly to have fun. We are currently working on some recordings and plan to release an EP by September. Thanks to all for your support.

Mile High Makeout: Getting Fresh

Last Tuesday night's headliner at the Larimer Lounge was the amazing Dub Trio. I was absolutely astounded by the outfit's instrumental collage of math rock, Jamaican dub and progressive metal. If you missed that show, or the next night's set at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, kick yourself.
The real heroes of the night, however, were two Denver bands I'd never seen before: Murder Ranks (FKA Russian Bones and Soft Touch) and Identity Pusher. The former includes folks associated with Warlock Pinchers, Ghost Buffalo, Nightshark and goP@riot. With this bizarre collection of disturbed souls, the quartet rocks a ridiculous-yet-rockin blend of dancehall reggae, hip-hop and punk, with a splash of PIL thrown in to truly confuse you. While bassist Ben Williams and guitarist Mike Buckley add their unique and memorable touches to the sauce, the standout sickos are definitely hyperkinetic drummer Nate Weaver and compulsively loquacious frontman King Scratchie. The gang doesn't currently have any future shows scheduled, but is recording its debut, so keep an ear out.

What time do you guys take the stage on Saturday at Red Rocks? The tickets say gates open at 6:30, but your homepage says something like 3pm. We just don't want to miss it!!
