Murphy & Murphy is a father-son duo of inventor/musicians Cary and Robert Murphy. The central instrument for this performance is Chair, a patent-pending controller built into a standard office desk chair. Conceived and built by the duo, chair is a product of their experiments in total immersion, a project aimed at erasing the boundary between thought and sound.
Robert is playing Chair, Cary a guitar synth controller. Additionally, they change places; Cary takes over the Chair while Robert plays e-bow on a fretless bass. With the exception of simple patterns programmed into an analog-style software step sequencer, the performances are fully improvised.
