JEREMY SOLE. Bio.
Basically, it's people. Good people and good music. Lots of both ...and a couple bucks too, to spend on more music. That pretty much sums up the past 20 years of life for Chicago-born Jeremy Sole. Sole has been making beats since the MPC 60 was born, deejaying since rotary crossfaders were the standard, and playing clubs since he was too young to (legally) get in.
[ROOTS] As a teenager, Sole's underground loft parties were packed with sweaty bodies - a culture clash at the birth of Hip Hop and House music. He matured as a turntablist in Jazz, Dub and experimental hybrid bands before the phrase "Acid Jazz" confined the sound. The rich Chicago history of Blues, Jazz, Disco and Funk were all part of his upbringing, and like a true music lover Jeremy has always reveled in the place where they all blend together. “When I was young, I spent many a night in the alleys behind blues clubs, listening to cats like Buddy Guy through the air vents. Those same nights I would be mixing with legendary Disco deejays at our downtown loft parties." Since then his obsession grew to include music from around every corner of the world.
[RESIDENCIES] As Co-Founder and resident deejay of AFRO FUNKE', J.Sole and his partners Rocky Dawuni and Cary Sullivan produce an event that brings a diverse mix of music lovers together each week at the Zanzibar in Santa Monica. Blending Afrobeat, Funk, Reggae, Latin and Brazilian rhythms; Afro Funke' has hosted hundreds of international guest performers over the past 5 years, from Rich Medina and Quantic to impromptu jam sessions with Zap Mama and Stevie Wonder playing over Sole's DJ sets. Every week is a future memory. Sole, along with Cut Chemist, is also a monthly resident at FUNKY SOLE, LA's longest-running Rare Soul night thrown by Music Man Miles of Breakestra/Rootdown fame.
[ROSTER] Jeremy has had the honor of sharing the stage and/or the studio with hundreds of his deepest inspirations, including Roy Ayers, Ben Harper, Tony Allen, DJ Krush, Lauryn Hill, War, The Meters, Chaka Khan, Seu Jorge, The Greyboy Allstars, Antibalas, Ray Charles, Reuben Wilson, Buck 65, Jerry Garcia Band, Joe Bataan, Eddie Bo, Quantic, Cut Chemist and many more. MoveOn.org and OBEY recently had Sole as their resident deejay for "MANIFEST HOPE" at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, including the closing ceremonies with Z-Trip and Shepard Fairey, hosted by Sarah Silverman and San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom.
[RADIO] In April 2006, Sole spent months making music with Lauryn Hill. The first words she said after hearing him DJ was "Have you ever thought about getting into radio? because THIS is the music that the people need to hear". Exactly one year later Anne Litt from KCRW called, asking him that exact same question, and now you can catch J.Sole on 89.9 KCRW every Wednesday from midnight-3am, as well as Saturdays and Sundays on kcrw.com. As a musician and producer, Sole uses the word ""Musaics" as both an artist alias and a conceptual approach; removing beats and samples from their original context, and juxtaposing them as a form of mosaic music. His past "Musaics" have been released on Om Records' Deep Concentration compilations, and also featured Garth Trinidad on "A Call To Action"; the opening track of the re:BOOT compilation (Om/NextAid), raising funds and awareness for the children orphaned by AIDS in Africa.

OUR DEBUT GIG AS A FULL BAND! [excerpt from Getty website]:
For the first time as a full 9-piece ensemble, DJ Jeremy Sole presents his culture-clashing recording project he calls "Musaics". Sampling drum loops from vintage world music records, layering original compositions, and using the "mash up" approach by alluding to existing songs, JEREMY SOLE'S MUSAICS juxtaposes elements of Afrobeat, Cumbia, Highlife, Jazz, Dub and experimental beats.
For this project, Sole pulls together his dream team of musicians, who also perform and record with Ray Barretto, Dr. Dre, The Lions, The Pharcyde, Build An Ark, Madlib, Wayne Shorter, Connie Price & The Keystones, The daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra and many more.
As well as hosting his weekly show on 89.9 KCRW, Sole is also the Co-Founder and resident DJ of Afro Funke', the "weekly Afro-boogie ritual" that draws hundreds of devotees to the Zanzibar nightclub every Thursday. Join us in celebrating music as a singular global language, where each culture's native rhythms are merely slang - different accents of the same mother tongue.
