Eating breakfast with some fans in a hotel restaurant. Cruising around town in a party bus. Getting mobbed at the mall. It’s all in a day’s work when you are one of the chiseled young men that plays in pop-rock sensations The Maine.
But it’s not everyday that this stuff is also streamed on the internet. Thus, it was pretty great to be able to check in every few hours as the guys made their way, albeit very tediously, to the Echoplex in Echo Park last night for their sweltering MySpace Secret Show. They weren’t alone. The night kicked off with a set from their buds in Disco Curtis, who played a handful of acoustic songs. Usually, when a pop-punk band unplugs things can get a bit sketchy. But the guys showed off just how structurally sound their songs are, especially set closer “Ashley” which got the most audible sing-along of their set.
Though, in all fairness, things only got louder when The Maine took the stage. Which was fine: They had been up for something like 18 hours at that point. Might have been a nice wake up call. Soon, they tore through fan favorites like “Into Your Arms,” which terminally shirtless frontman John O’Callaghan brought the crowd down with. Of course, they also played songs from their new album Black And White (which you should probably be buying right now). You can see the show itself on the Secret Shows profile for the next week and view some photos below.
