Introducing...
About Funeral Party
On their major label debut, Los Angeles dance-punk partystarters Funeral Party instantly break down the walls of restriction— the propulsive chugging bass, skidding guitars and chanting vocals on "New York City Moves To The Sound Of L.A" signal a band throwing off the shackles. With this same sense of urgent abandon, the trio forged its modest beginnings within a blossoming East L.A. dance-revival scene. "We come from this jail town: no one gets out until they’re dead,” singer Chad Elliot explains of the band's small-town roots in Whittier, Calif., “You’re trapped.” Adds bassist Kimo Kauhola, "We definitely want the music to sound like an escape." Through their music, Funeral Party (which includes drummer James Torres) have broken free. While their moniker conjures up images of pallbearers doing a brimstone boogie, the band—named after a Cure song of the same name—are on a high, experiencing a curt rise among music blog-o-nerds thanks in part to gigs with Julian Casablancas, Passion Pit, and The Mars Volta.
