American Idol's toughest judge is delivering the inside scoop of the show and on the big changes and exciting new twists in store for the hit show's eighth season, a new report from Star Magazine details. Simon Cowell recently said that he believes that Kelly Clarkson was the most talented idol winner ever (wait - did he really say Kelly Clarkson?) and now he has spoke to Star Magazine about some of the changes to get people back to the show.
The first winner of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, is preparing for her 4th release. The multi-platinum Grammy winner fell short last year on her third, most raw and personal album My December when music exec Clive Davis publicly dismissed it as unsellable due to its emotional dark content.
Clarkson's controversial and anticipated My December came at a time when she was seen as one of the world's best singers and also one of today's hit writers, penning several No. 1's for herself. The album failed to take off due to no promotion after the label offered her $10 million to replace 5 songs with more radio friendly hooks. However, Clarkson denied the money value and stuck to her artistic roots, fighting until the record was released after 4 months of being shelved. The single "Never Again" peaked at No. 8 on the Hot 100 chart when several media outlets on Davis' side said the public did not want to hear it. Although, the Alanis Morissette-esque song has found itself just 40,000 copies shy of being a platinum single. The second single "Sober" received absolutely zero promotion from the label as retaliation and only peaked at 124 on the Hot 100. Fans were outraged as an artist on such a scale would be treated with such disrespect.
During the negotiations to release the album, Clarkson came to agreement with her label that if she were to release this album, she'd do whatever they wanted the next time around. And so far, she's kept that promise even with a new CEO in tow.
Clarkson's as yet untitled album was originally due for a November release. However, Clarkson began keeping a blog and has updated us recently that she's finished recording the album and just a week before that updated that she recorded one final song with OneRepublic frontman, producer/writer Ryan Tedder entitled "If I Can't Have You."
