COMA (Creative Original Music Adelaide) is a member-based association created to support emerging and established musicians who write and/or perform quality original music.
The association was formed in mid 2005, initiated by a small core of musicians who felt frustrated by the lack of performance opportunities in Adelaide original music. Whether in the genre of jazz, improvised, classical, electronic or mixed-style music, the Adelaide music community is greatly benefiting from the sense of unity and support that such an association is providing. Modeled around the highly successful Jazzgroove Association in Sydney, COMA presents a unique opportunity for the creative development and artistic endeavors of a broad range of Adelaide based composers and performers.
Currently, COMA runs a series of fortnightly concert events at the Wheatsheaf Hotel (George St, Thebarton) on the first and third Mondays of every month. Here audiences are treated to exciting performances by leading and emerging contemporary, original musicians and ensembles that often have no other performance outlet for their music. Each concert event will feature two contrasting ensembles, with entry only $8.
- To provide performance opportunities and professional development for members who are practicing original musicians in the fields of Jazz, Improvised, Contemporary Classical, Electronic and New Media based music
- To encourage members to take risks and to experiment in performance
- To develop a support base and a sense of community between like-minded musicians
- To provide audiences with a quality low cost, fortnightly contemporary music event that reaches across traditional age and cultural boundaries and reflects the diverse musical styles and interests present in contemporary SA culture
- To develop linkages and artistic relationships for future work amongst members
If you are interested in performing at a COMA event at least one member of your group must be a COMA member and you need to send a brief bio or description of your group / performance plus a demo recording (CD, MD, etc) to COMA - P.O. Box 934, North Adelaide, SA 5006 for consideration be the Artistic Directors. If you do not wish to perform you may still endorse the association by becoming a supporter-member.
Thankyou for your support!
