Internationally renowned for performances and recordings that sparkle with vivid insight and vibrant musicality, musica intima has earned a reputation as one of North America's most exciting vocal ensemble.
12 professional singers make up the personnel of musica intima. Lloyd Dykk of the Vancouver Sun says “the flexibility and agility that are a function of their small size is partly what makes them so exciting.” But what makes musica intima truly unique is that they rehearse and perform without a conductor. In rehearsal, they exchange ideas freely while exploring their own musical creativity. In performance, they engage the audience with a spontaneity and freshness all their own.
Founded in 1992, musica intima has become an integral part of Vancouver’s cultural fabric. The ensemble regularly collaborates with local organizations including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Vancouver New Music, Music in the Morning, and the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. In recent seasons, musica intima has performed with cellist Steven Isserlis, conductor Paul Hillier, jazz pianist Uri Caine, and has premiered newly discovered works by Charpentier with conductor Hervé Niquet.
musica intima has graced the stages of some of Canada’s best known festivals and concert halls including Festival Vancouver, Elora Festival, Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Festival de Lanaudière, Palais Montcalm, Domaine Forget International Festival, and Indian River Festival. A distinctly Canadian ensemble, musica intima regularly commissions and premieres works by Canada’s leading composers, including José Evangelista, Peter Hannan, Jocelyn Morlock, Jordan Nobles, and Jeffrey Ryan.
Known around the world for their warm and engaging stage presence, impeccable musicianship, and unique perspective on ensemble singing, musica intima has appeared in France at Polyfollia, the American Choral Directors Association Conventions in Hartford and Vancouver, Cork International Choral Festival in Ireland, and World Symposium on Choral Music in Copenhagen, Denmark. musica intima won top honors at the biennial CBC Choral Competition in 1994, 1996 and 1998, and is
often broadcast on Canadian radio and television
musica intima has released four recordings with the ATMA label including clear (2002), invocation (2004), forgotten peoples (2006), and o nata lux (2008), along with two other releases including their Juno award-nominated disc musica intima (1998) and CBC records release nativite (2002), nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award.

Hi intima - I'm a big fan of your group, especially the cute little soprano who sings all the high stuff! Could you tell me if she's single? I think I'm in love!!

Thank you for the astonishing music. I first heard your recordings several years ago through a mutual friend, Craig Galbraith, who brought a CD of yours to his composition lesson and I have been a fan since then.
All my best wishes for the New Year, full of health, peace, creativity and beautiful music.
