One Happy Woman's Interests
Music
Oooooh . . . don't even know where to start on this one. Singing brings me greater joy than just about anything else on Earth. I play the piano for the choirs at my son's middle school. I sing with a big band; you can check us out at http://home.comcast.net/~salembigb/. I love to listen to everything from classical to cutting edge, but I have special fondness for Eric Whitacre, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Hornsby, Stephen Sondheim, and the great classical pianists/composers from Beethoven to Rachmaninoff. I'm a sucker for good Broadway musicals. Most of my exposure to new music comes from daughter Sarah, who has the coolest, most eclectic musical interests imaginable. Lately I've been kind of addicted to Guster (thanks, Jeff!), Aqualung (thanks, Sarah!), and Muse(thanks, Amanda!). I can't wait for Mario Spinetti to hit really big. Pure genius there.
Movies
I will repeatedly watch anything done by Monty Python, the Coen Brothers, or either of the Two Peters (Weir or Jackson). I am a sucker for good movies, period (regardless of genre, year of release, or who's in them). Over the years I have discovered that my taste in movies runs curiously close to Peter Travers,' which is kind of freaky but saves lots of time when it comes to choosing what to watch.
Television
I haven't watched anything with great regularity all year except for gastroporn on Food Network. Mario Batali, Robert Irvine, and Duff Goldman are my culinary heroes!
Books
I love to read; I pretty much inhale books. I'm not picky about authors or genre or date of publication--just give me a good story and I'm off. I'm still catching up on the classics. I'm particularly drawn to biographies, history, and speculative fiction (aka "science fiction/fantasy"). Some of my favorite authors are Patrick O'Brien, Clive Barker, J.K. Rowling (yes, I'm addicted to Harry Potter), Stephen R. Donaldson, Michael and Jeff Shaara, Alice Walker, and Peter Straub. Dan Simmons has grown on me tremendously; the guy writes stuff so dense you can stand a spoon up in it. My favorite book of all time thus far is "Between Eternities" by Robert Pilpel. Don't ask me why; that book just stays with me.
Heroes
My parents, who will celebrate 53 years of marriage this year . . . my children, who amaze me every day . . . anyone who has ever stood firm against injustice, followed their dreams and stayed true to themselves, or worked to make the world a better place.
About me: I am a mother, wife, musician, and government financial analyst. How's that for labeling? I love humor, strong coffee, deep conversation, the arts, and the natural world. I lean toward obsessive-compulsiveness with certain things (jigsaw puzzles, video games, knitting, etc.), which is one reason why I've never tried gambling. I live a stone's throw away from the 45th parallel in an awesome little community called Keizer. I have no patience with heedlessness, stupidity, bigotry, racism, intolerance, and selfishness at the expense of others. I believe people are valuable as individuals and should be treated with respect. I'm a certified tree-hugging, diversity-embracing moderate; in other words, I am compassionate but my heart doesn't bleed for those who refuse to take advantage of opportunities to help themselves. I am passionate about pretty much every part of my life, especially where my family is concerned. I am married to my best friend, Gary, who also happens to be the most wonderful guy in the world. And I really need to update this intro, but I never seem to have the time . . .

I know it seems way too long, but it's nice to know there will eventually be an end to the insanity . . .
Out with the old and in with the new . . . and not a moment too soon!

You are a good communicator with a pleasant soft-spoken voice. Also a talented singer.
No I didn't! Where is that? Do they make good cookies? I love cookies. :( I did go to this shaved ice place. I can't remember what it was called. But it was 10 times better than any snow cone I've ever had. :)
Thank you so much for the support concerning the nightmare situation with my new neighbor. :) It's nice to know I have people backing me up! I also wanted to say it was great seeing you at Mandy's wedding; I thought everything was wonderful and you couldn't have set up a prettier venue.
I couldn't stop smiling throughout yours. I just kept thinking in my head," How adorable how adorable how adorable" then we went up there and had to read for hookers hahahahahahaha
Fun stuff- I look forwward to seeing you tomorrow! :)
Hey- I'm going to be trying out for the new musical that Randy Bowser wrote. I don't know how it will go. Auditions are this weekend. Considering it is a new musical never heard, I'm not too sure about it, but I've heard some samples online. Plus, there is a part I am interested in and I would have a death scene. I've always wanted to die on stage. LOL Weird thing I know, but I want to stretch my acting to the next and darker level.
I will still be listening to the music and learning the numbers. I just don't know when the times would clash coming up if they do.
Hey there!!! I was just wondering when the whole big band stuff starts up again. I'm going to start listening to the CD again you gave me with the 1st set of songs you guys do with new vocals. I'm excited!!! I haven't heard from you in so long though! :( I miss you!!!!!
Yeah, it's going to be Tues-Thursday for me haha. First scene, then all cast vocal review, then dancing...yikes. We shall see how much I have to bump it with a trumpet LOL
