DAN GRIFFITH is a guitarist, composer and singer who lives in Brooklyn, NY. He began playing the guitar at age 10 with boyhood influences such as John Scofield, Phish, Allman Brothers, Karl Denson, and other members of the jam/fusion scene . Secondary influences include classic rock, groove orientated jazz, deep funk, house, trance, blue grass, folk and hip-hop.
Like his musical taste, Griffith's playing and composition is versatile, meandering between styles with technical precision. His thoughtful choice of notes is contrasted by his uninhibited musical spirit. Whether playing peak-orientated improvisation or getting down and dirty in grooving funk, he finds a musical space to fill while leaving ample room for other players. He prides himself on technical cleanliness and musical knowledge, which aid him to write unique and often intricate compositions.
Dan's primary focus is his band STILTS, which mixes funky rock n roll, fusion jazz, the jam scene, reggae and more into one indescribable sound. The music ranges from polished and catchy songwriting to pure improvisation and outstanding musicianship shines throughout the group. Formerly known as "Big Meat," Stilts has played 250 shows since late 2005 . Dan is the primary songwriter and lead singer in the group.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION - An extremely talented guitarist with a collegiate education in music from Connecticut College, Dan has been giving private lessons since 2002. He is available for beginning and intermediate instruction for all ages. His system of teaching is based around objectives determined by the student. The most important thing is that the student learns what they need to play the music they enjoy. Music is fun first. Anybody can pick up a guitar and be playing a song within a week or two. Focus will be on technique, rhythm, and basic knowledge of the tonal music system with an emphasis on scales and chords.
ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE - Dan is available to play background or mood music at any occasion. This will be mostly singer-songwriter material with mellow originals, classic rock covers and folk songs. Dan also loops audio during the show in order to play multiple parts simultaneously in his signature expansive style. Think songs like those on the Eric Clapton unplugged album, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, etc. He comes with a PA system if necessary.
COMPOSITION - Dan has written over 70 songs in the past five years. He is available to commission songs in any style. Dan will ensure that you receive a transcription, chart, or tablature depending on your needs.
