About Music and the World Documentary Film Festival
"Music and World" Music Documentary Film Festival is an international and multicultural event which takes place in Krakow. Main goal of our festival is to promote global and local soundscapes in Poland, support better understanding of various kinds of cultures and their traditional (and non-traditional) music through documentary films, live acts, workshops etc.
Main goal of the 1st edition of Music and World Film Festival was wide and interdisciplinary focus on traditional music while the 2nd edition was devoted to joining of musical traditions with the modern, presentation of a new media as a proper language to describe coexistence of tradition and contemporary, global and local activities.
3rd edition of the Festival will take place in 24-26 April 2009. It’s main goal can be defined as presenting “Musical archeology” and “digging” which is an in-depth studying, collecting and exploration of the tradition via various media (film tape, field recordings, vinyl, cassette tape). That’s why next edition will put the spotlight on films about important figures of “diggers”, who devoted their whole life to explore fading musical worlds, forgotten traditions as well as new or rediscovered musical phenomena. Beside the film part there will be a chance to experience great musical heritage live acts from the close perspective. Diggers from all around the world will present their analogue recordings – records and tapes during various soundsystems and dj/vj nights. Special place will be devoted for concerts, exhibitions, meetings and workshops…
