The netlabel-scene as we know it today looks back on a year-long history. Back then, we felt like pioneers, some of us even sensed a revolutionary development that would change the music industry completely. Since then, a lot has happened, but to the same extent, things did not work out as anticipated and hoped for by many. Many people have turned to exclusively selling their music, forgetting the original spirit of the movement. Others flood the netlabel-market with one mediocre release after the next. But if you look closely, you will find: The last of the pioneers are still here, still doing their thing, pursuing their vision with total determination.
Musicartistry has existed since 2002. Michael Renk, still being the head of the label, laid the foundation for what wasn't explicitly planned as a netlabel, but what basically had the same ideas: He wanted unknown artists to be able to display their work to the public. This included works of art as well as music. Hence the name of the project: Musicartistry - a combination of music and art.
Of course, the rapid growth of the netlabel-culture left its marks on us: In 2004 we discontinued the "art"-section of the website and reworked the concept of the remaining "music"-section. October 2004 saw the re-launch of "Musicartistry Recordings", now truly deserving its name, under the new motto "Electronic Diversity". After the re-launch, Michael Renk started to work together with Julian van den Boom, a translator from Cologne, who helped translating all text material from the site into English. This step was necessary to make the site accessible for international markets. In 2005, Musicartistry started a collaboration with "electronic-lounge.net", a platform and forum for electronic music. Head of "electronic-lounge.net", Sebastian Reuschel, supports the label as an advisor, manager and coverart-designer. Up to today, the label is constantly changing and developing: New ideas, projects and improvements are waiting to become reality, some of them already introduced, some of them projects for the future.
To face the facts: The number of netlabels is constantly growing. Here and there some of them shut down or reposition themselves on the market, but still, the numbers are growing - a development which we regard as positive. Still, we are very proud to be able to look back on fifty releases, published since the labels' inception in 2002. For the future Musicartistry Recordings remain to stay flexible and surprising, always keeping up with trends while simultaneously being timeless.
Obrigado por esse momento, todas as formas de encontro são revolucionárias, as sonoridades se fundem e dão graças e vidas aos nossos sentimentos mais obscuros. Abs BB
