When asked to describe their genre of music, A Band Named Ashes will respond with “Progressive Folk”, but add a disclaimer: “Really, we like our listeners to define the music for themselves, and we’ve noticed that a lot of people have a differing opinion on our genre.”.. .. .. During songwriting, Nate Vaill, lead singer and guitarist, begins with a foundation of folk, and the band adds a variety of other musical influences to their songs including funk, gospel, pop, hip-hop, rock, blues, and more. It’s these different musical styles that give A Band Named Ashes its unique sound, along with their instrumentation. The group consists of Nate Vaill (Lead Vocals/Acoustic Guitars), Seth Vaill (Keyboard/Accompaniment Vocals), Gina Wilson (Cello), Patrick Lamielle (Bass/Accompaniment Vocals), and Kevin Maher (Drums/Percussion/Accompaniment Vocals). Family, friendship, and acceptance are the band’s core values, and present themselves through inspiration in the band’s lyrics and music. Live performances are dynamic, with improvised parts finding its way into the music. In fact, on occasion the band has even been known to create an entirely new song on stage... .. .. A Band Named Ashes released its debut album, Circles, on May 28, 2010 under its independent distribution entity, Just a Dream Entertainment. Nate Vaill worked as the Executive Producer on the album, along with Lee Evans from Jambox Studios in NYC and Charlie Martinez at Ante Up Studios in Cleveland, OH. A Band Named Ashes is aided by contributions from No Pulp Music, LLC in NYC.
