Music, writing articles about the music industry, songwriting, bands, artist management, booking, concert promotion, MusicBizAdvice.com, reading, publishing, helping musicians learn about the music business. On the personal side: photography (I suck at it but am trying to get better), architecture, Hollywood history, old movies, film noir.
Music
Rock and Roll has my soul, but I listen to everything. Faves? Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi (especially the "Keep the Faith" era), Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Nickelback, Elton John, Billie Holiday, Elvis, Big Band and jazz from the 30's, Beethoven. I also like Aaron Lewis of Staind's lyrics, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue's lyrics (love his twists and metaphors), and Rob Thomas's unique vocal style. My favorite frontman/ music business mentor is Jon Bon Jovi. Strangest thing in my music collection? Desi Arnaz Greatest Hits, which I actually play because it's fun and happy. Radio-wise, Ryan Seacrest's morning show on KIIS-FM cracks me up (the music? Not so much). After that, Indie 103 or whatever rock and roll I can find, like Jonesy's Jukebox.
Movies
A movie date is my description of hell...I'm into film noir, but I'd rather invest 2 hours in seeing a live band. Favorite movies: Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity.
Television
Documentaries, 1930's-40's movies on TCM. Appointment TV: "I Love Lucy" and "Frasier" reruns because laughing got my endorphins going and helped me come back from an autoimmune disease. Favorite episodes: "Off to Florida," in which Lucy loses the train tickets; she and Ethel hitch a ride with a woman Lucy thinks is an escaped hatchet murderer ("Is it dyed?" "Who died??!!?" "My hair!"), and the Frasier episode where Niles and Frasier buy a restaurant.
Books
Biographies, Raymond Chandler novels because I love living where the books take place ("Look! There's where Phillip Marlowe had his office!"). Favorite book? F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby". Favorite recent book? The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Sixx.(Haunting and immensely helpful.)
Heroes
Accomplished people who are passionate about life, who have a great work ethic, and who use their powers for good and not evil...
...and Bugs Bunny. (How many times can one wabbit escape death?)
Make that "former" manager. Now I'm the Founder / Editor of MusicBizAdvice.com and am a music business consultant specializing in troubleshooting. My background? National level booking and concert promotion, including platinum artists.

My favorite time of day on a show day--other than the show itself--was always the time of day I call the Golden Hour.
The Golden Hour starts when the stage is ready, the crew has left for dinner break, and the venue falls quiet after the sounds of a busy day of set-up and teamwork.
The sun is usually beginning to set, and it's as if the venue--which has rested all day while getting primped--takes its cue from the first fans starting to arrive outside and decides it's time to wake up and get ready for Showtime. This is my cue to find something to do out in the empty House so I can catch a few minutes of the feeling of the venue slowly waking up...You can almost feel the building yawn, stretch, and come to life, and about 45 minutes later, the energy in the building has changed dramatically and the atmosphere crackles...Kind of like the venue is starting to buzz from its first hit of espresso.
If you can relate to the above scenario--or if you're looking forward to it someday--join my Friends list and check out the MusicBizAdvice.com website.(The website is also the best place to reach me if you need a music business consultant, by the way.)
Meanwhile, never give up on your dreams.

Who I'd like to meet: Amelia Earhart, to find out what really happened: Was she a secret spy for FDR? Did she ditch the plane? Was she captured? Hmmm...AND George Hurrell (my favorite photographer), to pick up some tips.
