Bio:
Yeah, ok, so I like to make spooky music with lots of sub-bass and creepy sounds. You know, something the whole family can enjoy ;-)
Akumu has released 4 CDs and currently working on a 5th one. There are a few net-releases coming out soon and some collaborations with other artists that are just about finished too. More on that later.
Occasionally, a cool Film or TV project comes along and I do the soundtrack for them. That can be fun, but I don't do "jingles" or crap like that. Hunt me down on imdb.com if you want.
Akumu has played a bunch of live shows -- the darker the better -- and will be playing more as the 5th CD nears completion. Live is more of a zone-out, experimental thing for me rather than party-madness. Just sit back and let the fog and sub-sonics do their work.
And, what would creepy music be without creepy videos??? Akumu has a DVD coming out August 18th of all the live videos from the last couple of years. It's called "Tapeten: Video Anthology 2005-2008" and it's in 5.1 sound -- my first time working in 5.1 -- fun! Anyways, you can pick up the DVD at http://www.pingthings.com. I'll be posting some video excerpts regularly over the next couple of months.
Ok, now some official stuff....
Bio:
Akumu is Toronto's Deane Hughes, composer of dark electronic ambient music. Formed as a solo project in 2000, Akumu [Japanese for “nightmare”] explores the eerie side of natural systems through long-form instrumental tracks constructed from drones, found sounds and micro-sonics that synthesize organic and electronic elements into haunting atmospherics and low frequency beats. He has released three full-length albums on his own Spider Records label as well as a split release with Andrew Duke plus various compilations and net tracks, and performed live across Ontario and Quebec including at Montréal's Mutek and Toronto’s X-Avant festivals.
