Ben Folds Five, Ben Folds, Beatles, Keith Jarrett, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Umphrey's McGee, Oscar Peterson, The Bad Plus, Phish, Queen, Keane, Dresden Dolls, Stevie Wonder, Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, Natalie Merchant, Fear Of Pop, Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows, Belle & Sebastian, Elliott Smith, Cole Porter, Thelonius Monk, Beck, Regina Spektor, Alicia Keys, and whoever else floats my boat.
Every musician, and indeed all people, have goals and dreams that mold their lives. Alan Bailey is a singer/songwriter working hard to fulfill his. With his unique brand of accessible piano rock, he has won over his Chicago fans and is on his way to more. His just-released studio album, Can't Let Go, contains an assortment of honest songs, from the pounding of 'The Moments Passing', to the heartfelt 'How Could I Be Blue?', and to the thoughtful lullabye of 'I'm Off To Bed'. The influence of Ben Folds and The Dresden Dolls are immediately obvious, and specific songs have drawn comparisons to Elvis Costello, The Who, Jeff Tweedy, and even Rocky Horror and the Spice Girls.
Alan has played in the best small music venues in Chicago, including Schubas, Double Door, Subterranean, Abbey Pub, Beat Kitchen, and the Elbo Room. In addition to his original work, Alan founded Bended & Folded: A Ben Folds Five Tribute Band that has played in Chicago for two years. He also passes on knowledge to future generations by teaching keyboards at the National Paul Green School of Rock Music.
Alan is no stranger to touring, and the complications and hardships that come with it. He has toured as a musician for the Second City National Touring company for most of 2008, touring to California, Texas, Massachusetts, and many points in between. Alan also has been a pianist for a cruise ship band, docking in twenty-one European countries.
On stage, the Alan-Bailey Continuum is the perfect vehicle for Alan's songs. Liz Ele packs a punch on the drumkit, but also knows when to lay back. Chris Fiore adds the final touch to every song on his cello. At each and every Continuum gig, Alan and the band perform a new cover song that they have never done before. As well as keeping the audience surprised, this is a way to stay fresh by learning new material.
