FIC
FIC
BIO:
FIC, aka Fiction, was born in Decatur, GA on October 30th 1982. Born Ronald Jones, FIC has the swagger of someone that has been here before, “I’m a soulful dude that has something to say and a story to tell.” Raised by a single mother in Minneapolis, MN, Fiction began rhyming at the age of 14. His cousin introduced him to rapping and constantly challenged him to write and rhyme. At 17 years Fiction joined a group called Uppadeck composed of Fiction, his cousin Cyance, and underground MC Buss One. From there he linked up with Shebro Records out of Detroit, Michigan. FIC graduated from Washburn High School in south Minneapolis in 2001, a school rich in history and diversity. After working with Shebro for a year the group parted ways.
In 2002 he began working with Pharohs Entertainment., a group of young musicians, promoters, producers, engineers, and rappers. It was with The Pharohs that Fiction really began to flourish as a solo MC. “I’m here to prove what hard work and dedication can get you. It doesn’t matter what you do, just push to be the best at it.” Fiction was a behind-the-sounds collaborater with Pharohs Entertainment until releasing his first solo project in 2004 ,“Arm & Hammer.” “FIC’s best attribute is his ability to see nuance’s in other rappers, and apply them to himself,” explains fellow rapper Corey “2C” Fernandez of Pharohs Ent.
FIC’s biggest influences musically have come from the likes of Nas, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Kanye West, Michael Jackson, Wycleff, Lauren Hill, Bob Marley. FIC has worked with artist like Freeway & Memphis Bleek. The honesty in FIC’s music is unmistakable, “I use life’s ups and downs as my inspiration,” says FIC. “Sometimes music is the only escape you know, its kinda like therapy.”
PRESS:
City Pages – October 12, 2005: BIG HITS OF MID-AMERICA, vol. 412
“Eschewing mysticism and goofiness alike, [FIC’s] POV is strictly pragmatic…Producer Rocky-like Fiction is a veteran of the Pharohs Entertainment crew-shows off his penchant for building beats around loops nipped from less than obvious chunks of R&B songs, letting FIC’s red-eyed contentions float on a dreamily piano-driven bed of cotton ear candy.” – Rod Smith
Star Tribune – August 18, 2005: YO! 5 TO WATCH AT HIP-HOP FEST
“Fiction, a seasoned MC at 22 after several years with the Pharohs, the gritty rapper is making a name for himself with a couple of well-received mix tapes, including the new "Rocky vs. FIC: The Midwest True Story." – Chris Riemenschneider
