Pizza to Go!” was Lisa’s first sentence, according to her mother, and instead of speaking it - she sang it. By the time she was three she knew every advertising jingle and Sesame Street song there was. Her exuberant performances often managed to drive her older brothers crazy!
Growing up, there was an abundance of musical opportunities available, especially in her home. Between the piano, guitar, drums and the old cassette player-which blasted everything from Garth Brooks to Aretha Franklin- Lisa and her siblings were encouraged to express themselves musically. Church and school provided other opportunities for Lisa to showcase her natural talent, doing so with an uncommon ease.
She loved singing with her brothers and sister and when she started dance class, the entertainer in her really blossomed. For several years, she performed a comedic dance routine with a boy from her dance class-competing in both local and state competitions. “Those are some of my favorite dance memories,” recalls Lisa, “We won cash & trophies and at nine years old, we thought we were rich!” From singing in the church and school choirs to dancing competitively, Lisa developed multi-faceted performance ability early on.
Transitioning into her high school years, Lisa honed her skills through choir, band and dance. Along side being a member of select musical groups and getting leading roles in musicals, Lisa was also active in a variety of sports, including; softball, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading. In addition to contributing her athletic skills she was appreciated for the comedic relief she provided for her teammates, and also her ability to incorporate her musical talents through singing the national anthem.
It was after one of these sporting event performances that Lisa came to realize the profound impact music can have on its listeners. “We had a basketball game the night after 9/11. I was asked to sing the National Anthem, and for the first time I really thought about the words I was singing. People made comments and sent cards to me afterwards saying that the way I sang had given them goose bumps and brought tears to their eyes. I couldn’t help but think how amazing it was to have been given the ability to really touch people with my music.”
During her teen years, Lisa began writing her own music and continued to perform at numerous events and competitions. After an audition in the Twin Cities for a national talent conference, Lisa was flown to LA where she connected with a talented producer, whose production company arranged to record her first demo, including some of her original material. She later performed one of these original songs for several music business executives, and it was this live performance that caught the eye of a well-respected Nashville producer. This connection led to the recording of her second demo-, which accentuates her genuine, down-home vocals with a country flare. Her playful sense of fun and magnetic charisma makes a Lisa G performance an event to remember. “I take my music very seriously, but there is nothing like the high I feel when performing for an audience.”
Lisa is currently attending college and doing solo gigs and shows with her band. The buzz surrounding Lisa G is continually growing - showing a very promising future for this up and coming artist.
