Welcome to MUSIC CITY GOSPEL SHOWCASE on MySpace! Here you will be able to keep up with all the exciting happenings of MCGS, as well as see & hear some of the many great acts who have been a part of our show.
For those of you not familiar with us, MUSIC CITY GOSPEL SHOWCASE was the brainchild of industry veteran Don Frost, who knew from experience how hard it was for unestablished acts to break through & be given a chance to be seen & heard. Frost decided to create his own televison show with the sole purpose of giving up & coming acts their chance for exposure.
MUSIC CITY GOSPEL SHOWCASE TELEVISION SHOW has programmed more new Gospel acts than any other TV Show in America. The Show began over thirteen years ago in Nashville, TN, on WHTN, a 5,000,000 Watt, full-power Christian TV Station. People said the Show wouldn't last because the focus was on Groups or Singers who were not household names.
MUSIC CITY GOSPEL SHOWCASE began airing on GOSPELMUSIC TELEVISION and SKY ANGEL over ten years ago.
The response has been overwhelming. Literally hundreds of Groups and Soloists from all over the USA and Canada have called in wishing to be a part of the Show.
The Show features a mix of new acts, rising stars & living legends from all genres of Gospel music. Some of the legendary names who have appeared on the MCGS TV Show and Convention include Skeeter Davis, Bill Shaw, Roy McNeal, Donnie Sumner, Ed Hill, Sherrill Nielsen, Jack Greene, Naomi & The Segos, The Florida Boys, The Weatherfords, The Chuck Wagon Gang, The Dixie Melody Boys and The Blackwoods to name a few. However, the main focus is, and always has been, providing a showcase for fresh talent who have not received mass exposure in the mainstream media.
Each year, MCGS programming culminates in the annual Convention & Awards Show held at the Grand Resort Hotel & Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, TN. The Convention is packed with music with afternoon showcases and three nights of concerts, highlighted by the awards ceremony on the final evening, which are all broadcast nationwide. Awards are presented to favorite soloists, duets & groups based on the results of nationwide internet voting, as well as the coveted Entertainer of the Year award, which is selected by a panel of industry veterans. The Convention is traditionally held on the week of Fathers Day each year. Preparation for the next year's Convention begins the moment the current one ends! The 2010 Convention is already shaping up to be our biggest yet!
