Influences
My influences come from music that's moved me because of its energy and honesty, starting with Coltrane and Monk.
I performed in New Orleans for over ten years with a broad range of artists including Frank Sinatra Jr., the O'Jays, Ellis Marsalis, Willie Nelson, Keely Smith, King Floyd, Lil' Anthony & the Imperials, Mem Shannon, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Johnny Adams, Henry Butler, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Nicholas Barron, Russell Batiste Jr., Soul Project and led my own groups, including jazz quartet Thin Line. I have Master's of Music from the University of New Orleans where I studied with Ed Petersen, Steve Masakowski and Ellis Marsalis.
Hiya Steve! How's my favorite sax player? Haven't heard from you in a long long time. Hope all is well in Chi-town. Opened a shop in the Quarter called Filthy Rich of New Orleans selling replica jewelry. If you ever come back "home" you know where to find me.
We are very excited about playing at such an awesome jazz club. We have some great sets lined up for you, so don't miss it. Friday and Saturday November 20th and 21st, 5:00-8:30p at Andy's Jazz Club in Chicago
Aaron Koppel -Guitar, Matt Nelson; (Lupe Fiasco, Matthew Santos) -Keyboard, Graham Czach; (Chicago Afrobeat Project) -bass, Robert Tucker (Matthew Santos) -drums
Steve! sorry for the delay. I dont log on to Myspace much lately. How's it going? I took a hiatus from the Stallions but I'm back and we're going strong again. Been playing with a section called Hellfire Horns with Erik and Marcus Cardwell. I'd love to come up to Chicago with the Stallions. Are you planning on getting back down to Austin at all?
Hey, so a blustering drunken fan told me about how you were "really really super great" when you played with Bus Stop Stallions. (I'm the tenor player right now) Anyway, you do sound great! I'll drink to that! :)
Hey Steve, Backatcha... missing your talent and vibe in a big, big way down here in Austin. Been talking you up a lot lately, in fact tonight at a Ken Vandermark (another Chicago tenor) gig at the Victory. That Old Town scene looks amazing. I'd love to get in there. Family's great, thanks for asking. You guys? Damn good to hear from you again, brother. Be well... WR
