The Musicians Benevolent Fund is a unique UK based charity which provides essential help to musicians of all ages. It supports music professionals throughout their working lives when a crisis such as an accident or illness can have a devastating impact, and in later life with the challenges that older people face. It recognises that the life of a professional musician begins early, and therefore supports talented young people to enable them to fully develop their creativity and musical potential.
Each year, the Fund helps more than 1,500 music professionals and makes career development awards to over 200 outstanding young musicians. In 2009 it made grants to the value of £1.8m to musicians in need or crisis, £400,000 to excellent and outstanding young artists and £500,000 to more than 50 organisations which support musicians.
