Generallistening to good music as often as possible!, interesting (slightly mad) people!, dark nightclubs with phat hi-fi, unusual off the wall humour, strange scenarios, weird situations, post-clubbing oddness, laughing my arse off!, running and badminton, healthy eating!, talking about my imaginary pet aardvark (which one day I'm going to take to crufts!), dreaming about elephants sucking to my head with their trunk!, shredding Elvis Presley!?, making up stories about E.T, Elvis and Michael Jackson turning up at all of my friend Kink's gigs...!!!
Musicanything good...disco, dub disco, electro funk, acid house, cosmic, techno, rock, balearic, electronic, a melting pot of experimental dance-floor meloncholy!...if I like it I buy it, there are no boundaries to the world of music, open your ears.....embrace the good shit! dance-music wise, I'm currently loving - Mudd, Reverso 68 / Frontera, Soul Mekanik, Harvey, Idjuts, Carl Craig, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Maurice Fulton / Cyclops, Transparent Sound / Artificial Arm, Voom Voom, A1 People, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, Rune Lindbaek, Jepser Dahlback, Henrik Schwarz, Emperor Machine, Rekid, isolee, Spirals, Lexx, Weatherall, Joakim, i:cube, Foolish Felix, Chicken Lips and asscociated productions, Kink (set for big things in the future, a very talented young man!)....some music I like and have taken inspiration from (aswell as the forementioned!)...Rolling Stones, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Depeche Mode, Man Parrish & early electro funk, Fleetwood Mac, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Hollies, Duran Duran, Echo and the Bunnymen, Happy Mondays, Chic, Thompson Twins, Talking Heads, Prince, Tears For Fears, Police, Clash, Cure, Who, Tom Tom Club, Supertramp, Ian Dury...its endless!

   Phil Banks's Blurbs
About me:
I started collecting dance-music around 1985, when through my friends older brother I was exposed to electro funk & the breakdance scene, I continued to buy electro, hip-hop & buy the end of the 80's house....1990 I went to a rave & then!?...............................that was 17 years ago, since then I've spent the majority of my time buying music, promoting parties, DJing, meeting like-minded people & indulging in the lifestyle that comes with the fore-mentioned, quite frankly 'I love it!'... Our current party 'Musicismypoison' has been running for well over a year & evolved from our previous night 'Deadfly' which had been running for 5 years...we changed venue & refined the music ethos, in turn changing the name to suite...the outcome being an ongoing series of parties, with an uncompromising, well thought about but very open-minded music policy, a decent sound-system, decent friendly people, held in 'no glam' dark spaces for people to shake their ass & relax in! Some of the DJ's we've brought to Plymouth (and some of our other parties) over the past 7 years include:- Kelvin Andrews (Soul Mekanik), Mudd (Rong Records) / Silver Bobs Disco Meltdown, James Holroyd (Backtobasics), Phil Mison (Reverso 68), Balearic Mike, Unabombers (Electriks), Sancho Panza, Bill Brewster (DJ History), Stuart Patterson (Faith), Chicken Lips, Jon Marsh (Beloved), Justin Harris (MFF), Miles Hollway (Paper), Rob Bright (BuggedOut!), Crazy Penis, Billy Scurry, Paul Woolford, Moonboots, Daniel Donnachie, Kelvin Brown (Eyes Down), Strut Records, Rob B (Stereo MC's), Mark Rae, Aim, Riton, Onlychild, Peter Parker (Fingathing), DJ Milo (Wildbunch), Ben Wijay, Greg Wilson (Nuphonic/Tirk), Deepsoul3, Rob J (Bam Bam), Hugh Herrera (Candelas), Jolyon (Lowlife), Diesel (X-Press2)...the list goes on. As a DJ I've been spinning records for 12 years, playing around Dublin for 7 years (played Mono, Hub, Witness Festival), a few gigs in Europe over the past two years...with more in the pipeline 2007, recent UK gigs have included Thekla (Bristol), Society (Sheffield), Hupendi (Stoke), Earwax (Exeter), UFO (Plymouth), Wax The Van (Exeter), Love Thy Neighbour (@ Public Life -London)...plus our own parties in Plymouth & the surrounding areas... past residencies and promotions include: the second coming of seminal South West clubnight 'Cultural Vibes' where I DJ'ed with Digit, Jack, Digs and Woosh, Simon DK, Kelvin Andrews, Dave Mothersole, Richard Grey and the very talented DJ/promoter Verdi, co-promoted Chameleon in Exeter (voted best small club-night in the South West 2005) where I brought the likes of Bill Brewster, Unabombers and Daniel Donnachie to the city, various Southwest outdoor events including Parklife and Maker Sunshine Festival, a weekly Saturday residency at Ride which lasted for 3 years, Mono (Dublin)...plus loads of one-off events and in-house promotions, international radio slots etc...... to find out about any of our forthcoming events go here - www.musicismypoison.com . My day job consists of Graphic Design & Screenprinting, so if you want any cool tshirts printed for your party/club-night/record label or whatever give me a shout, I'm the man for the job...I've worked for the same company for 16 years, you could say I know my job quite well!
Who I'd like to meet:
mischievous like-minded people!, music/art types, Dj's, Promoters, Producers...fun people with a good sense of humour! people that don't know when its time to go home and sleep!!, people that like to have a good party, people that get me in to trouble & make me miss work!, people that don't conform and know how to let off steam...happy, friendly, genuine people please step in my direction, the gates to my world are wide open!

hi man
the pleasure was all mine, I enjoyed every moment - even though I was knackered from the Public Enemy concert the night before. As for the recording - I already downloaded it and I'm about to post it on a few other message boards. expect me to bother you with some track ID's soon :)

Your parties look really good, Phil. I didn't realise you were in Plymouth. Is Goodies still going? And that hellhole that is The Clipper?....
