Music Mavericks adopt the Coffee Pavilion as their New Home
Singer-Songwriter Lisa Gentile Heads Up Community of Artists on Wednesday Evenings at the Coffee Pavilion
Lisa Gentile will be bringing her well-received open mic. (formerly known as “Cosmic Tuesdays”) to the Coffee Pavilion, 111 East Water Street, in Hanover Square. The community of artists which has been built in the short period of time the open mic. has been in existence, has created such a buzz that the spirit of the evening will live on even after its place of inception (Lucky Moon & Stars Café)has closed its doors. “Cosmic Tuesdays”, newly named “Music Mavericks”, will reconvene on Wednesday, July 11th from 7:00pm-11:00pm and will run weekly on Wednesdays thereafter.
“This is not your run-of-the-mill open mic like I’ve experienced in the past, where performers wait in line to sing and then head directly for the door,” says Lisa Gentile. “Something has really been special about what we have created. Though the themes have changed from week to week, there has been a consistent spirit throughout. What we have seen are mavericks– individual mavericks showing up for one another and evolving into a supportive community without losing neither originality nor irreverence in the process. Thus the new name, “Music Mavericks”.”
In addition to the spirit of this well-known staple for area musicians, there is another distinction. Each week an acclaimed artist or theme is chosen for the evening and performers are encouraged to bring in their covers of, or their own originals inspired by that specific artist or theme. However, performers are not required to stick with the theme and are welcome to perform any material they would like.
