Blablabla, I just love music, to listen and to make myself. Hope, wisdom, sadness, anger, love, faith, belief, intelligence, adventure, rock 'n roll feeling, trust, conflict, harmony, dreams...It's so beautiful because it's intertwined with life. You can write songs about things you experience, but songs make you experience as well. It's a way to communicate...
I like electronica, but not how it's been used these days. Electro is funny, but way too simplistic. I like folk, but I don't feel like being bounded to just an acoustic guitar or some tiny bells or a violin as a backing band...So, Im trying to combine some of these elements, writing songs to make sense and using electronics in an "organic" way, as an instrument. Well here,s the official story:
STORY
Sophie Zeyl already holds quite a reputation as a singer/ songwriter in the Netherlands. In 2003 she comes first in the singer/songwriter finals at Paradiso, winning best dutch vocalist prize. She extensively tours the clubcircuit, as well as performing live on radio and television shows, receiving a lot of national attention and credit.
Expectations were high strung on her debut album. In 2004 she hooks up with multi-instrumentalist/producer Anka Wolbert to start the first recordings. Anka started her musical path in the Eighties as co-songwriter of electronic new wave band Xymox, signed to famous indie label 4AD (London), to get later signed to Polygram and EMI, New York. Pieter Nooten is invited to the project as well. Pieter Nooten proved an unique artist in the past with his album “Sleeps With The Fishes” (4AD), producing a serene ambient sound in collaboration with Michael Brook (Brian Eno, U2) which gained him worldwide credentials.
This interesting combination of musicians/producers results in a captivating debut album, Two Ways of Running (I-rain Records 2005). The intimate acoustic and vocal sound of Sophie Zeyl is accompanied by subtle beats and varied guitar sounds, layered atmospheres and surprising arrangements. Music to dive into and explore.
After playing solo for several years, Sophie collects some excellent musicians around her to make a creative and solid live band. With her band she is combining acoustic folky elements with electronica. Having this unique sound travelling from catchy rock to moody, intimate songs, they receive lavish critical acclaim by the dutch music press.
Sophie Zeyl proves to be a must hear. Whether or not being surrounded by musicians, she leaves you absorbed by her performance, warm hearted lyrics and tantalizing vocals. A voice that caresses each syllable with a languid, velvet touch or rough like Nina simone.
At the moment Sophie is preparing for her second album which is planned to be released mid 2009.

I just listened to the tracks, of which ¨I am not like that¨ was definately my favorite (if it matters to you), and saw the video. Did your belly hurt after all that stuff came out?
I was concerned, at first, (after hearing the first two tracks) that I did not know what ¨electronica¨ meant, as I have put a little side-project together called ¨Transient 23¨, that I always considered to be very poor electronica...but NOT music....that is a long story, but I have it written on the page if you ever see it....but then ¨IANLT¨ made me see that portion of your music. I live in Mexico, and I am not sure I can buy your album, but I will look for it next time I am in the big city (Guadalajara).
After the first track I shaved all my beard off, because when I heard that God was looking for me I knew I had to do something...I owe him about a hundred dollars!

Hey there! I have written you before but never heard back. I, of course, assumed you had died or lost the use of your arms, but I just logged in to see that you HAVE been on lately, so I thought I would write again.
I would like to get in contact with your drummer. It has been about ten years since I last spoke to him and I really think it is time I told him how great he is. I was in a band called ¨Groove Factor¨ in Dallas, TX with a dude named Lulio and he was once in a relationship with my then'girlfriend Emily..s friend Brandy.
