Some influences, some I just really like, some I can't stop listening to recently - in absolutely no particular order:
Rush, YES, Zebra, Triumph, Dream Theater, Jethro Tull, Coheed & Cambria, Beer For Dolphins, Queen, Kansas, Tool, Iron Maiden, Disturbed, KORN, Incubus, Duran Duran, Taproot (one of the most underrated bands in recent memory IMHO), Steve Miller Band, Men at Work, Weird Al ('Yaba Daba Doo Now!)
Familiar in the Abstract is a self-produced first effort for Principles of Uncertainty dealing with the idea of life’s indoctrinations into various schools of thought (and the freeing of the self thereof), an introspective look at confronting, and possibly growing past, the paths in life that we didn't originally make decisions about on our own.
More accessible than generally 'Progressive'... Principles of Uncertainty let the influences shine through while producing an original sound based in high creativity and introspective design. Prog Art? Rock? Progressive Rock? --- not specific to one but elements of all three ... and more, with influences that span from Rush and Yes to Tool to Duran Duran and beyond.
Philosophy of a solo artist:
"It's difficult to create something as a solo effort that has the feel and musical diversity of multiple, unique human inputs. There's a kind of stigma attached to solo artists for this reason, I've found. As Principles of Uncertainty, the musical elements have very specific styles and I take great care to be certain that the finished material represents no element of greater importance than any other."
Principles of Uncertainty?
The concept that we're born and indoctrinated into lives and principles over which we have no initial say but begin to, at various points in life question the validity of. A sort of human extension of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle -- that life is an utterly moving target.
Jeff, thanks so much man. Truly digging your music too. We must keep prog alive! :D Hope to cross paths some time in the near future. All the best! -Phil
PROG GREETINGS JEFF --- Love it. I added it to the "Familiar in the Abstract" set out on PRM Radio - www.ProgRockandMetal.net. The links do work on the tracks!!! Bill -- PROG ON!
Moved the Marshall to make room for the new PC. Everything else is the same (for the most part). I Added the Axiom 61 midi controller. It's a step up from the Edirol with the semi-weighted keys and all. A piano it's not, but much better.
Dude, I need some help this weekend if you could swing it. I need someone to engineer for me so I can finish this fengshui in the Garden tune. Need to re-do guitars for the umpteenth time (ugggh). I'ts Jazz and it's mostly improv and I just can't relax enough to pull it off while I'm ponnied up to the controls...
