The Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota based band Strawdog got their name from the nickname that lead singer and pianist Taylor’s father calls her. “My dad and I are huge fans of a certain band who has a song called Strawdog. We both love the song and for some reason it just stuck.” Taylor explained, “At band practice when we were deciding on names, I mentioned it and it seemed to fit us perfectly.” The band formed in the summer of 2008, with one short hiatus in the fall for band members to adjust to college life.
Strawdog jokingly calls themselves ‘the band without a genre’ because of their vastly different styles in each song, from the dark and intense rock of “Wasted Space” to the very swing-styled “Black & White”, and those are just a few of the styles Strawdog touches on. “Our varying sound most likely come from our ranging influences among the four of us. We each have our own preferences and you can definitely tell through our songs that our influences are different, yet work together to create the sound that is Strawdog.” Drummer Brett relates. Their influences include Ben Folds, Jack’s Mannequin, Missy Higgins, Jukebox the Ghost, Harvey Danger, Something Corporate, Jackson Browne, and Elton John to name a few. Their sound includes catchy drum-beats, powerful guitar, and usually predominant piano. “I’ve learned to write more for the band then just me and the piano, but it definitely still comes through in my writing style. Our sound is unique with how the piano is in a way a second voice to the vocals.” Taylor says.
The band feels very blessed to have played at the Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis, and has also played at various venues around the Twin Cities, including The Cabooze, Big V's, The Uptown Bar, and O’Garas. In May 2009 Strawdog played at St. Thomas Battle of the Bands and came in second place by one point. It has become obvious that Strawdog isn’t just doing this as a side-hobby, it is definitely a passion. For all three of the young musicians, they look forward to see what the future holds, with high hopes of a life in music.

Hey guys, Thanks for finding me! hope you enjoy the music. If you haven't already please check out my new album on iTunes and help support us independent musicians :) I like your tunes, especially scar. I hope to see you guys around the local scene.
I worked at Maurices once when I was still in high school. Good times. I remember the discount being AMAZING. As for the merch girl myspace: it's has been overflowing with positive responses and bands that will be looking for people in the fall so it's all promising! Anyway bummer you can't come but I'll totally ask him if I find him - I'm curious myself. I can always give you a concert call if you want. Let me know!
Summerfest is quickly approaching! Do you know if you are coming yet? Aaand Jack's Mannequin at Bamboozle was such a let down. They sounded amazing, as usual, but the crowd was horrid. I had an elbow in my throat the whole time and no one was even listening to the music. *sigh*
Hi Keys, We put new pics up in our photo section! Here are the ones of us at the Indy Music Awards. Click on the pic to see the entire album. Leave us your comments.

Aww that would be really awesome to have a copy! And I really think, at least deep down I want to believe, that the blonde flop is back. Keep your fingers crossed and I'll give you an update when I see JM at Bamboozle next week!

hey are you going to send in your demos? just curious, cuz you should let me know how that goes if you do. And remember, if you ever need a guitarist or a bassist or a drummer or a second pianist or a mandolin player just lemme know :-)
That Safe And Sound song would be quadruply amazing if it had full instruments, but I think I always tell you that. Maybe I just want to be credited on an album when you're uber-famous, idk...
