Civil War Music on Boston Road Records
Boston Road Records has two albums by Celtic/Folk performer, Jed Marum with stories in song from the American Civil War.
The Fighting Tigers of Ireland was originally released in 2002. It has been updated, revised and re-released in Jan 2007. The album includes songs from the North, South and from the African American experience. Much of this compilation album was recorded at a live concert, some tracks are from other Boston Road Records albums, and several were recorded exclusively for this album.
Cross Over the River released in 2006 is a collection of Confederate stories. From Stonewall Jackson to Patrick Cleburn, - from the border wars of Kansas and Missouri to the CSS Shenandoah, the song list includes stories from Confederate history.
Both Albums have original and traditional songs. Several songs from the albums have been licensed to Film, TV productions and to and other recording artists. Lyrics and comments are posted in the Myspace MP3 player, and all songs are downloadable.
Jed Marum BIO
Jed Marum albums play regularly on Folk/Bluegrass and Celtic radio programs around the world. His music is also distributed widely on all the major MP3 services. Throughout the US each year Jed plays over 150 shows at festival, club and concert venues and his 2007 touring plans include performance dates in Canada and Mexico as well.
Reflected in his song writing and song selection is a keen interest in history and the passing of culture from generation to generation. Jed performs traditional songs and contemporary songs in musical style that is both Celtic and American, with strong Bluegrass roots.
Nicky Rossiter is host of STORIES on Ireland's
South East Radio says,
"Marum gives us history in song and music that is every bit as powerful and awe-inspiring as the television series Civil War. He has a wonderful facility for taking these stories of the ordinary people and the big events and making them real. His use of personal papers and poetry from the period is exceptional. He never forgets his Irish roots or the often underestimated contribution of the Irish to that conflict."
"Prayer from Little Round Top is the song one of the great Irish poets might have written had he marched to Gettysburg with Jed's Irish immigrant from Alabama. The melody seems to well up from some misty glen in Connemara, wrapping the soldier's sad story in a teardrop. It may mark me as a sentimental Irish man to say this, but if you can listen to this haunting song without finding your eyes moistening, then somewhere along life's way, you’ve lost your soul."
Jed is known as a gifted singer, a unique and talented player and an accomplished songwriter. He is a warm and comfortable performer with a story to tell and gift for the telling.

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

When God created the robin redbreast, He told the bird he must remain plain and gray until he earned his red badge of courage. At Golgotha, the robin, seeking to relieve the sufferings of the Savior, overcame his fear of the mocking crowd, flew to Christ and pulled a thorn out of his head. The blood from the thorn's wound dripped on to the robin's breast and has caused it to be red ever since. HAPPY EASTER
