THE COALITION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MUSIC ORGANIZATIONS (COSMO), JUST PLAIN FOLKS (JPF), AND LOS ANGELES WOMEN IN MUSIC (LAWIM) --PRESENT-- A Day of Music Industry Workshops and Panels --At the Pro. Musician’s Local 47, 817 N. Vine, Hollywood

Michael (Micky) Schuman

Ok…Grew up in Los Angeles (assuming I grew up), between Hollywood and Venice Beach, was an avid gymnast in school, working out at UCLA with some of the Olympic team with dreams of going to the Olympics, but never good enough; have been actively involved in the music and entertainment businesses for many years, immersed in, and surrounded by artists, music, musicians, recording, studios, record companies, and other creators of music and entertainment enjoyed by millions around the world. My passion and focus has always been music, I breathe and bleed it, and at the age of 17 had my first job in a well known Hollywood recording studio at that time, Fidelity Recorders. With much dedication, long hours with experienced record makers, and lots of experimentation, early on I intuitively learned, and continue to learn, develop, create and expand the fine art of music and song production.

By the time I was 21, pretty much already an expert independent recording engineer and record producer, arranger/derranger, was working in many of the best 'state of the art' studios in Los Angeles, from Record Plant, Capitol, United Western, and Ocean Way, to Paramount, Kendun, Yamaha, Motown (Hitsville), and The Village. Spent one great year in Sweden helping to discover, produce and record some of the most well known and successful artists in the country. Within the first month there, recorded and mixed the single that won the Eurovision Record of the Year, which is the European version of the Grammys. (Eva Dalgren, Columbia/GlenDisc). Many of the other artists I recorded continued platinum success over the years....from Tomas Ledin and Tommy Nilson, to Eva Dalgren, Anders Glenmark, Ann-Louise Hansen, Pontus Platin, Goran Rydh, etc. Also did a Norwegian Country Record (bet you didn’t think there was such a thing) with well known artist, Bjoro Haaland.

Upon returning to the United States, I continued to work and earn Platinum and Gold Awards with, record, mix, etc such world renowned artists as Billy Preston (4 albums, one Grammy nomination, also known for work with The Rolling Stones, and as 'The Fifth Beatle ), Smokey Robinson (2 albums), Switch (2 albums) Jermaine Jackson (4 albums) DeBarge, Syreeta (2 albums), The Jacksons, Michael Jackson, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, James Brown, Natalie Cole, Peter Nero, Laurindo Almeida, , Frank Zappa, The Impressions, The Temptations,The Originals, The Spinners, Stevie Nicks, Chaka Kahn, Rufus, Neil Diamond, Gene Page, Martha Reeves, Devo, Ron Wood, George Benson, Earl Klugh, George Duke Herbie Hancock, Robbie Robertson, Rita Coolidge, Berry Gordy, Iris Gordy, Kerry Gordy,Thomas Dolby, Ray Parker, Jr., Rudolph Isly, Sly Stone, Jean-Luc Ponty, Tata Vega, Black Russian, PFM, Feargal Sharkey, Mother's Finest, Dave Stewart, Tim Conway, Ice T, Cool Moe Dee, Stephen Bishop, Alan O'Day, Stephanie Mills, the L A Philharmonic, Kim Fowly, Tom Scott, Tower of Power, Ernie Watts, Stix Hooper, Joe Sample, Wayne Henderson, , Donald Atzet, Gene Page, Sylvester Rivers, Michael and Brenda Sutton, Paulino deCosta, Ndugu Chancellor, Jonathan Moffit, Joe Pocarro, Jeff Pocarro, Steve Poccaro, Mike Pocarro, Steve Lukather, (ToTo), Nathan East, Nathan Watts, Freddie Washington, Greg Phillinganes, Abe Laboriel, James Jamerson, James Jamerson, Jr. Paul Jackson, Jr., Michael Boddicker, Eden Ahbez, Mark Mothersbaugh, Benny Medina, Black Russian, Jimmy Reid, Jr , Cuba Gooding, Shelia E., etc. I also produced and recorded special performances of Billy Preston exclusively for the Smithsonian Institute at Stagg Street Recording.

Berry Gordy, legendary head of Motown, attempted to bring me on board as an A&R executive and Staff Producer. There was even a friendly competition as Berry would occasionally try to remix and/or "out mix" me. Berry admittedly never could, and I continued to enjoy success with Motown independently. Later became the managing partner in another well known Los Angeles recording studio where my clients included Brian Wilson, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Wilson Phillips, Olivia Newton-John, Anita Baker, James Ingram, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Michael Kamen, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, John Trivers and Liz Meyers, etc. I also produced and recorded Tasha Scott for Michael Jackson at Jackson's home 48track studio during this time.

More recently founded MusiColor Entertainment. The debut artist signing of MusiColor Entertainment was the the local Brazilian band, BADAUE, a very eclectic young group of 9 talented musicians from Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Africa, Korea, the Philippines, and the United States, known recently as "LA's Own Premier Brazilian Band", headlining clubs, concerts and festivals, and nominated as Best World Band in 2004 by the LA Weekly Music Awards () Also produced and/or mixed several large events at House of Blues, Hollywood Palladium, Pershing Square, Long Beach CARNAVAL, etc.

On September 26,2004, MusiColor Entertainment, for the first time exclusively produced, recorded 24track at both stages, and video taped the music, the people, and other entertainment at the historic 20th Anniversary Abbot Kinney Festival, in the world famous Venice, California. Mr. Abbot Kinney is known as the Founder of Venice, one of the most popular and often visited cities in the world. The schedule included 18 great bands on two stages, such as Horny Toad, Los Pinguos, Jimmy Reid, Jackie Lomax, Billy Preston, Badaue, The Bonedaddys, Most Chill Slack Mob, The Zoo People, Sugar Bitch, In Bloom, Form Of, Gila Monsters, Free Kountry, Shape Shifters, Firefly, Endless, Donald and Tichenor, along with celebrity hosts Jane Velez Mitchell from CBS /KCAL, and actor Tony Longo. This year The Festival became the Second Largest Street Festival in Southern California with over 100 thousand visitors.

On Septmeber 25, 2005, MusiColor Entertainment once again produces the music and entertainment for what is now known as the culmination of the VENICE CENTENNIAL, 100 Years of Venice, celebrating the 100th Birthday of Venice, at the 21st Annual Abbot Kinney Festival. This year the festival grew even larger, with over an estimated 180,000 visitors, hosted by ABC News Correspondent Amy Powel, CBS Newscaster John Roberts, my little brother, actor Tony (BIG T) Longo, along with special appearances by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villiarigosa, Councilman Bill Rosendahl, and a special surprise performance singing Happy Birthday to Venice by Leon Ware along with the Mayor, Italian opera star Marinella, and the thousands in the audience. And the Mayor had a surprise of his own, personally thanking mua, in front of thousands, for a fantastic day of entertainment. Other scheduled performances- Ana Sidel, The Untouchables, Quinto Sol, Amanda Dumas, Shirli McAllen, Seven Stitches, Figure One, The Sixth Chamber, Rachel Lynn, Dug Mug and The Thugs, Karmina, Tara Scott, Diacoustic, Brasilidade, Peter Demian, Yes Means No, Hazard, Marinella, and The Number One Dancers From Dance Studio Number One, a very talented local childrens' dance group.

September 24, 2006: Once again The Abbot Kinney Festival was a tremendous success, with a huge turnout celebrating the music and culture of VENICE, two stages full of great music and entertainment produced, recorded 24track, and videotaped and recorded by myself and kind caring staff, featuring such artists as Just Martha, Zak Daniels, Ana Sidel, Willis McNeil, Good Cop Bad Cop, Zera Zaughn, Chloe Dae, Brittney Elizabeth, Cory Phillips Superlove, Beth Wimmer, Qwiksand, Peter Damien and Street Smart, Kim Hall, Alder, Adaawe, Spence, Venice Maki, Sputnik Monroe, The Chills, and Sixth Chamber.

Special thanks to Councilman Rosendahl for his commitment and devotion to our community, Mayor Villiarigosa, my great crew, including Steve Barker, and his crew, my friends at The Record Plant, Rose and Ed Cherney, Bill Clark and his great video team. And to the fantastic hosts Jane Velez Mitchell, MTV VJ Shorty Brown, Tony Longo, and Deborah Daly, from the Santa Monica Mirror. And Ben…Im thankin you anyway, even tho you didn’t want me to, for making sure that the Brooks Stage ran smoother than silk. You da man. See you at The Cow. And to my Brother Craig. Thank you for everything, and thanks for the bike….never could have made it back and forth between stages without the Harley. Love you bro. And Props to CJ, WESTSIDE. The Original Phat Bastard.

A special note of Love and thanks to my long time and forever friends Ray Blech, BC, AL Schlesinger, Dick LaPalm, Larry Feder, Larry Shelley, Gary Starr, Kathy Konop, Lenise Bent, Carla Frederick, Jo Hansch, Joe Gastwirt, Eddie and Max, Angele.

Stay tuned. New Music. Artists, and Events to produce on the horizon. And watch for The Venice Beach Concert Series, launching soon.

Micky~  Here's a "quote" for you..on..[The Joy of Work]. "The most important motive for work in the school and in life is the pleasure in work, pleasure in it's result and in the knowledge of the value of the result to the community. Such a psychological foundation alone leads to a joyous desire for the highest possessions of men, knowledge and artist-like workmanship". Quoted by: ~Albert Einstein.  You are a good example of this. Many kudos & much respect!
