Diverse and slightly unconventional guitarist wanted!!! Melbourne. I am looking to re-arrange my band line up to make room for some new material come the end of the year. Up to now, I have played guitar myself, and I'm looking to get someone with more skill and better gear to knock things up a notch (and free me up to focus more on vocals and electronics).
The music is a strange blend of electro-ambient soundscapes with a heavy surrealist influence (think Residents/ Robert Fripp/ Lustmord/ Aphex), some glitchy dark pop (eg: bjork/thom york), dynamic/psycedelic rock elements (eg: TOOL/NIN/sigur ros/Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), jazz elements (eg: Thelonious Monk/Zorn), and a disjointed sense of set structure (eg: Fantomas).
You will need to play electric guitar, have a range of sound possibilities to fit the music (from super subtle to rawkus), own a really good delay system (preferably something you can save settings for each song, Line 6 or similar) a Digitech Whammy pedal (or similar), an extremely cool looking guitar, decent amp, and be capable of playing jazz/metal/silence. 7 string guitar would be a bonus, but not essential.
Most of the material will be composed, with room for improvisation at times. Your input with regards to sonics and interpretation of the material is of course encouraged.
You will also be expected to dress up at gigs, but more on that later.
so if the above mentioned bands float your boat and you think you can play for a guy like me, call me and we'll start making it happen! Justin Ashworth 0421 693 950 email: fleetingpoetry@gmail.com myspace: myspace.com/fleetingpoetry
extra info... If it helps, my favourite guitarists are Adrian Belew, Bill Frisell, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Trey Spruance, Adam Jones, Derek Bailey.
Hello friends,
After a long break from playing music, I'd like to get back into it!
I'm looking for talented people to collaborate and jam with, and ultimately start a new band with. I am open-minded about most details. To get some kind of idea of where I'm coming from, have a listen to "Sauce" (my old late 90's band) - Sauce is in my "Top Friends". This may give you a musical reference point, but I'd want to do something heaps better in many ways, and not necessarily much like that. I sing and play guitar on the Sauce stuff, but I would like to find someone who could do a better job of singing than me. I'd like to do something really original and unique, which rocks! I don't particularly want to do run-of-the-mill cliched beer-swilling rock! I have a broad range of musical interests and influences. I haven't collaborated much with other songwriters before, but I'd like to, especially with someone who writes lyrics. Eventually I'd like to get back into playing live and recording a great album sometime.
I have a want-ad at www.mattyw.com/wantad - check this out for more details.
My homepage is www.mattyw.com - here you can check out other details of my musical history, including God and Patterson's Curse amongst other things.
I would consider joining an existing band if they were really excellent. I play guitar and bass mainly, can't decide which I'd prefer to do, maybe a bit of both. I live in the Dandenong Ranges in the outer east of Melbourne. I'd be into casual jams and attempts at collaboration, regardless of whether anything more eventuates.
If you're interested, drop me a line. If you know anyone else who might be, please spread the word.
Cheers
Matty Whittle
