WHY WAM?
No one understands the needs and obligations of WA musicians and
related industries like the West Australian Music Industry Association.
WAM (originally the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association
Inc) was formed in
1985.
WAM is unique in it's support of both "the industry" and "individual
musos" of all genres and ages throughout Western Australia. West
Australia, a state 1/3 the size of the entire Australian continent, is
an area larger than most European countries and the second largest
subnational entity in the world (2,525,500 sq km). The capital city of
Perth is one of the most isolated cities on the
planet, produces
some of the strongest and most unique musical acts...
isolation
seems to strengthen and improve our unique and original flavour!
In the mid 1990s, WAM instituted national networking activities with
other state based industry associations - this formally became AMIN
(the Australian Music Industry Network), today a key voice in
contemporary music policy debate at a federal level.
