Bio
Formed in 2003 by noted scholar, composer/arranger and keyboardist, Dr. Guthrie Ramsey, MusiQologY plays accessible jazz music infused with the sounds of R&B, funk, soul, Latin, and hip hop. Ramsey, who composes and arranges all of the band’s music, stylishly crafts the deep grooves, funky melodies and bluesy harmonies that make MusiQologY’s sound so appealing. In live performances, MusiQologY shoots from the hip, electrifying audiences with spiraling improvised solos, and live reinterpretations of jazz standards as well as Ramsey’s own original compositions. MusiQologY has performed for sold out audiences at the University of Pennsylvania, the Kimmel Center, and in some of Philadelphia's best known venues such as Zanzibar Blue and Gloria's Seafood House. In the spring of 2004, the band took its unique sound abroad to South America, touring Uruguay as part of a U.S. Embassy program. MusiQologY’s debut album, “Y the Q?” (Ramsey Records) has already enjoyed considerable radio play, and has been met with critical acclaim. .. .. .. -

10 of 45MoreHello,how are you?
<object classid="clsid
Thanks for the add. Great music.
How are you? My new friend. Thanks for adding me.
As that Donald Lawrence gospel song goes, "Encourage yourself..." I feel encouraged when I encourage those who encouraged me through their talents and gifts. Your music always encourage me when I encounter a season in which I feel that my music is "blah" (every musician gets one of those "dry" spells every now and then), and when I feel I need a swift "kick" to keep pressing on! Your approach to playing the piano and keyboards is second to none, and your jazzy Ramsey "sound" keeps me going!!! Your music, past and present is always valuable in my personal collection, because you go all the way to deliver good music in a excellent fashion!!! I listen to the greats of my generation - Joe Sample, George Duke, Jeff Lorber, Chick Corea, Rodney Franklin, and many more, and I incorporate their "styles" in my own "sound" as well. I appreciate GOOD MUSIC, that original "sound," the authentic flavor "real" musicians worked hard to create. You and MusiQology remind me that there are still such groups out there! (HOORAY!!!) I look forward to hearing more from you and your band, and I must reiterate that your CD is a complete package for the listener, as well as your book!!! Always a fan of your music!!! Philly may have "borrowed" you for a while, but you're pure Chi-town!!! HAHAHA - Darius
On behalf of the community of musicians and music enthusiasts, I'd like to give a big shout-out of thanks for the hard work you put forth to share valuable knowledge concerning the different types of music through your blog!!! You opened our eyes to the world of music, from a scholarly perspective, by dissecting the music, analyzing it, and bringing it home, but it's essentially up to us, as individuals, to make use of what we learn to benefit the future, being inspired to follow the path less traveled, as you did, digging deep into the study of music, where it all came from and where it's headed, so that we can, in turn, educate and inspire others as well. We, as musicians, can only go so far to perform here and there, gigging, making money, having fun, which is not a bad thing in itself, but, it's another thing to understand the total concept of music, the big picture!!! People like you can literally open doors for people like us, that we can go beyond the "comfort zone," utilize all the available resources and knowledge available, so that we can make a change, as we are inspired to take on more leadership roles in the business, rather just settling for "good enough." Especially in times like these, when the music industry is suffering great loss, we can be inspired to grab hold of this big piece of our culture, our "language," preserve that which holds true to our souls, and make a difference!!!

Keep Jazz Alive!!! In today's music, "jazz" has often been misinterpreted, compromised, not fully embraced. Much of today's "jazz" has become rather generic, straying far away from its roots, taking away from what gave jazz its "zazz" from the very beginning. The colorful elements in straight-ahead, be-bop jazz have given way to redundant, watered-down, commercial-ized "smooth jazz." Thank you and your wonderful band, Musiqology, for reminding us what real jazz is, with all the funk and groove that defines the soul of our culture! We look forward to hearing more from you guys - especially your hometown, Chicago!!! "Y the Q?" RULES!!! Job well done!!!
Busy, busy, busy - the life of an accomplished musiQologist! May God bless you in your tireless effort to strive for the best! Although you cannot always keep in touch with us, we understand that you're working hard, as usual. You have our unending support, as devoted fans of your music!!! Everything will be just fine in '09!!!
