Sounds Like

"Mustard Allegro are not from California. Perhaps, then, the office blocks, docks and cranes of their native Bristol explain the angular portwards list of their peculiar brand of Surf music. The sense of humour is certainly British: named after an iconically awful 1970s car, and sporting track titles like 'At the Mount of the Chocolate Fountain, At the Fount of the Chocolate Mountain (Hyperdrive!)', the Mustards inhabit a world in which King Crimson write energetic two-minute micro-epics with Joe Meek at the controls, then dash down to the beach, boards in arms, only to find half a mile of mud between them and the Severn Estuary."

   About Mustard Allegro

Support the Junction!
The Junction, our most-played venue, is trying to help keep its monetary head above the financial waters by selling compilation CDs. Mustard Allegro have contributed a track, the German-language version of Great White, featuring Rahoki on guest vocals. It's called Grosser Weisser (spelt wrong on the CD cover, but that's DIY for you), and you can't get it anywhere else. The album's called DisJunction, and there are 20 top tunes on there, by artists including S J Esau, You And The Atom Bomb, Team Brick, White Trash Ambition, and those it says on the banner down there.

Buy a CD, Save the Junction

Mustard Allegro formed in January 2006, so don't expect much of a back-story. For the benefit of international readers, we should explain that the Allegro was an iconically awful British car of the 1970s, and particularly so in the colour officially called 'harvest gold' or some such guff.

Some of our track titles:

  • Bradley's New Shoes
  • Our Finances are in Ruin, Let's Go to the Casino
  • Guns at Dawn, Spats to Pawn
  • The Italian Catering Incident
  • At the Mount of the Chocolate Fountain, At the Fount of the Chocolate Mountain (Hyperdrive!)
  • Summer of Monkey / Pheasants' Revolt
  • For Once I Was Not Being Sarcastic

We have a website, at mustardallegro.co.uk. There might be a hidden MP3 there or something.

Howlin’ Lord

Apr 16 2009 8:43 PM

The Mighty Stef [AKA Stefan Murphy] is a singer and songwriter from Dublin Ireland, celebrated for the storytelling nature of his songs and his passionate live shows. He and his band are a veritable band of rock n roll Pirates, sailing a sea of influences that include everything from The Rolling Stones to the Pogues, Nick Cave To the Clash and Johnny Thunders to Johnny Cash.

Howlin' Lord - 'Galloping raw country blues. It's terrific, entirely in keeping with the spirit of Hank Williams, whining, urgent and desperate.
' Kid Pensioner Venue Magazine

+ DJ's spinning country, blues, r'n'b, primitive and not so primitive rock'n'roll.

MUCK & THE MIRES from Boston...UNCUT 4 Star Rated and VOX amplification endorsed, Classic Nuggets style Garage Rock’n’Roll with nods towards what the Yanks call the British Invasion sound – all two-minutes long and all potential hits.

Muck & the Mires opened for the New York Dolls show at SXSW this year and have graced the stage around the World with greats such as MC5, the Yardbirds, the Stooges and Dick Dale.

They are coming to England with their new album produced by legendary Kim Fowley!!

From Brooklyn…JONNY CHAN & THE NU DIE NASTY SIXX
Detroit born Jonny began his Garage Punk career in the 80s with high school pals Freddy Fortune and Michael Maltese (whom later formed reknowned Fortune & Maltese) in Nuggets/Pebbles inspired The Covingtons, playing the seediest dives with like minded miscreants such as The 3D-Invisibles and The GORIES.

Upon moving to New York he formed Jonny Chan & the New Dynasty Six
Whom became one of the most popular bands in Manhattan and were voted ‘BEST BAND IN BROOKLYN’ by the NEW YORK PRESS.

They have shared the stage in New York with ? & The Mysterians, Rocket from The Crypt, Richard & the Young Lions, The Fleshtones and even the Troggs! And played Rock’n’Roll photographer Bob Gruen’s birthday party.

Jonny Chan recorded the theme song (& appeared on) the amazing cult monster themed kids show ‘Ghoul A Go Go’.

This Easter Jonny makes his debut European appearance in the UK with his teenage English side kicks, The Nu Die Nasty Sixx, proving that the fiery spirit of garage punk transcends all ages!

Squirrel Skin Slippers…
….are a rough n tumble Mr & Mrs originating from the bone-rattling mythical antipodes of New Zealand.

Stitched together from the beaten skins of old deep south dirty blues, DIY garage music, folk noir and 60's punk, garage spirit.
This new and unpredictable creature is then brought to life with their own fuzzed-up experimental style and served with a (friendly) snarl!
